Well as most of you know, a lunar eclipse took place yesterday.
3-3-7? Yes, the third of March -> 03-03-'07.
Funny fact is, my housenumber is 337, that's why I wrote down the numbers in this way.
I've stabalized the camera on the edge of my window.
I've used spot metering to get proper details on the Moon, I hope I've succeeded in doing so!
This first of two total lunar eclipses in 2007 is unique in that it is atleast partly visible from every continent around the world.
Eclipse schedule for 2007 :
2007 Mar 19: Partial Solar Eclipse (I)
2007 Aug 28: Total Lunar Eclipse (II)
2007 Sep 11: Partial Solar Eclipse (III)
(I) The first solar eclipse of 2007 occurs at the Moon's ascending node in Pisces and is visible from eastern Asia and parts of northern Alaska
(II) The second lunar eclipse of the year is another total eclipse. All of North America will witness some portion of the eclipse, but western observers are favored. The early penumbral or umbral phases will be in progress at moonset for observers in Maritime Canada. From the eastern USA, the Great Lakes region and Ontario, the Moon sets in total eclipse. Only observers to the west of the Rockies (including Alaska) will be treated to the entire event. All phases of the eclipse are also visible from islands of the Pacific Ocean, New Zealand and eastern Australia. Various stages of the eclipse are in progress at moonrise for eastern Asia. No eclipse is visible from Europe, Africa and western Asia.
(III) The last eclipse of 2007 is a partial solar eclipse at the Moon's descending node in southern Leo. Its visibility is confined to parts of South America, Antarctica and the South Atlantic. Greatest eclipse takes place at 12:31:21 UT when the eclipse magnitude will reach 0.7505.

You did wonderfully, Emiel! That really is a great shot of an eclipse. I like the way you divided it with the light to the top and you got great detail for it being the moon. Well done!! Good wishes,

Hi Emiel. Spooky coincidence having numbers that match like that. I read the other day a rule of thumb for exposing the moon correctly which went: use the iso as the shutter speed (eg 100 iso = 1/100 sec SS) for an aperture of F11 (hope this makes sense to you). Great photo. Good sharpness and exposure. Thanks for sharing.

this is like a postcard with the frame, the writings and your name on the corner emiel... i like it a lot...

Yes I think it is a succesfull action, the moon has nice details.
You captured it in a good phase.
doubay (2093) 2007-03-12 12:26
this is really a great astronomical photo. Given that you made this shot with 300mm and ISO 1600 it is of astonishing quality.
I checked your gallery and saw that you still are not very active on TE. But why? I´m sure that Amsterdam has a lot of interesting sights worth being captured and posted at TE. Not only Greece is beautiful and/or interesting.

Technically a great work.
The Moon made the rest.
Thanks for sharing.

First of all i wish you best for your father who is in hospital.
Well i have an obsesion with the moon, my advise you can check it anytime by using iso 200 (idon't have iso 100 nikond50)f5.6 zoom 300mm meaning 450due to 1.5x Factor (not full frame) and speed 1/400 to 1/560 depending on what phase the moon is you get very sharp photos without using a tripod or stabilizing the camera at all.
Your photo is very good the way it is but maybe at actual size there is some lack of sharpness at the surface of the moon.

Very nice presentation of the eclipse.

Hiya Emiel, very nice exposure, colours and composition, your note prompts me to think about my own footprint on our planet, thought provoking capture!

I think you metered it just fine. Great capture of the moon, and thanks for the info!
