Photographer’s Note
Like many other TE-members, I also visited SAIL 2005 in Amsterdam. Together with Rinie I witnessed the "Sail-in Parade" on the first day of the event. This is the arrivals day of the tall ships that enter the Netherlands from the North Sea through the locks of IJmuiden and then continue their travel to Amsterdam.
One of the highlights of this day was the Indonesian tall-ship "Dewaruci". The sailors aboard this ship really made a party out of this arrival! A drum- and brassband on this ship played music and the sailors were dancing and waving in the masts. Superb sight! And of course, the ship looked beautiful with a VERY large flag as you can see in the Workshop.
It was the first time I visited this event and it was great! It's amazing to see such an enormous amount of beautiful ships and boats on the water.
P.S. Due to busy days at the office and preparations for my vacation I don't have much time to comment on your pictures. I hope to catch up in the next few days!

Yep, Micahel, just great, that was the nicest moment indeed, when they started their dance, and everybody started to applaud. They were the best and the bravest!
Lovely catch, great light. I like the ones who are also waving. It was a lovely day.

This is quite wonderful Michael with excellent detail and fine color. These sailors are definitely showmen as well with their smart uniforms and playful behavior. This is one of the those times when a long zoom comes in handy. You handled it well. Great work.

Funny shot, Michael
I thought they were little birds sitting on a telephone pole when looking in the thumbnail.
It’s a very symmetrical and colorful capture and it looks very special with all the wires ,cables and ropes
Very impressive

It looks dangeous, but much more that that, it's beautiful and very graphic. I appreciate the ropework the fact that you didn't includt the top of the mast. Amazing blue clear skie create a wonderful background. very good one, Michael.

Fantastic - like one of those big scale musicals - it's like they are dancing across the rigging - just wonderful - I really like this composition - great colour!

Hi Michael
Impressive photo ... i guess these dudes don't have any safety net that they can fall into ... light is a bit too harsh for my tastes, but still this scene is worth a smiley for sure ... cheers ... sarju

Hi Michael, By looking at the thumbnail version, I thought this is a number of birds. This picture surprised me when I look into the inside for details. A well taken picture with nice contrast and sharpness.

Great picture Michael! I really like that close up view, that gives a feeling of the festive atmosphere, under a beautiful sun that warms the masts and the sails. I missed the sail-in parade and I'm glad I can enjoy it through your pictures!
The flag (in the WS) is impressive. I'd hate to have to fold it! :^)
Well done.

Fantastic site and surely an interesting event, Michael.
Seems like sailors themselves had a really good time, too.

Hi Michael,
Toen dit schip bij mij langskwam begonnen ze net in de mast te klimmen. Mooi ballet hebben ze er van gemaakt en jij een prachtige foto. Een ereplaats in het thema.
groet Rob
kom morgen nog ff langs
