The late afternoon sunlight still lighting up the upper facade of Saint Nicholas Cathedral, opposite Central Station in Amsterdam. The vertical axis is aligned on the left of the twin spires. Built in the late 19th century, this church escaped the 16th century destruction of images and statues ("beeldstorm" of 1566) when zealots defaced any icons/statues they could find, in many of the churches, not just in Holland, but throughout many other places in Europe.

Bien cadrée cette très belle église qui trône au milieu d'immeubles à l'architecture intéressante. La lumière rasante de fin de journée met l'ensemble en valeur.

Great capture of this magnificent façade. The late afternoon light brings out the colours and detail perfectly. The people passing-by and the adjacent buildings off a good sense of scale for the soaring towers. Lovely sky makes a splendid contrast with the burnished red tones of the brickwork.

The presence of the people has an effect of scale. The poinr of view is showing with precision the details and colours of the architecture of the St.Nicolas cathedral. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

a magnificent shot of this beautiful cathedral. Do you know I have been to Amsterdam 5 times and never been inside, really must next time I go. I love the light here and your execution is both perfectly sharp and superbly detailed. Exquisite shot!
Wishing you a great weekend - Brian.

This is an excellent architectural of the 19th century edifice. You've minimized the convergence of vertical lines, making it much more realistic. Did you use a fairly long focal point lens, or just make a perspective correction in photoshop? Your short but informative note is a pleasure to read.
I see that you shot this image on August 10, just as we arrived in Barcelona. Are you back in Erzurum?

Oh, so there ARE other buildings and things to see in Amsterdam than rivers canals and bikes! haha
yes, thats normally what we see in Amsterdam, so this is for sure a welcome sight.
The Cathedral seems to completely dominate the smaller yet still large building beside it. Just goes to show the size and gerth of this structure.
I really like the strange looking window shades near the top! very cool and different.
nice shot all around

the church is looking superb with the last available daylight. Great composition. Like those people in foreground who nicely helped us to to understand the dimension of it. They added life to your photo. Like the tonal quality of it. Great one, really enjoyable... Tfs.

Chris, this is a really lovely shot of this old building. I was in Amsterdam a couple of years back and really wanted a shot of this cathedral, but it rained for the whole time, and we had nothing like this light. Great angle here, giving us a look at many different spires on the building. Thanks.

This church is so hard to get into the lens, beccause the surroundings are Always extremely ugly ;=],for the last 100000 years this part of town has been """under contruction"",and even in this photo,i see ugliness like hta busstop and rubbish bin on the right..
And like in every Dutch town, cars, cars, cars.,
You did a great attamp to give this pretty church the picture it deserves.
Well done Chris!
