The Geelvinck Hinlopen House is a house museum with four period rooms and a large garden on the canals of the historic centre of Amsterdam. The main house dates back to 1687, while the period rooms are mainly 18th and early 19th Century.
It also has one of the largest private gardens in Amsterdam’s historic city.
The Red Room
The Red Room has the typical opulent Rococo design of the Louis XV period. In the 19th century this was enhanced by darker shades and romantic floral motives. In this room are six paintings from Gillis de Hondecoeter, Pieter de Grebber, Pieter de Ring, Hans Goderis and Daniel Seghers.
The Blue Room
This dining hall has the characteristics of the Dutch Louis XVI period. It features overwhelming life-size Arcadian wall hangings by the 18th century painter Egbert van Drielst.
The Library has a richly coloured neo-classicistic stucco ceiling from the 19th century. The wooden floor is still from the 17th century and consists of wooden boards that originate from boats that were no longer seaworthy.
The Chinese Room
This room dates about the middle of the 18th century. The beamed ceiling, painted in its original oxblood red colour, is striking. This room is famous for its four rather rare wall panels in chinoiserie style. It is so-called Beijing wallpaper made on impregnated canvas.
The garden, which features one of the largest fountain ponds of Amsterdam’s historical canal mansions, can be divided in three parts: 1. a Dutch 17th century formal garden, 2. the lush romantic English garden middle part with reminiscence to a labyrinth, an 3. a grand French-style 18th century formal rose garde.

Garden in green in a rare sunny day in Amsterdam, Maria.
Lovely and meticulous work on plants and flower, and the small fontana on mid-pic.
