Photographer’s Note

From fishin to birds is not a very big step. Here I will start a miniseries about the birdlife of Curaçao.
Curaçao has a rich birdlife and a few remarkable species that are easy to spot.
A big bird that you will often see around the ports and the shore is the maginificient fregatbird. Here you can see a bunch of them following a fishing ship and hoping for a piece of the catch. In the workshop I'll show a more close up fragment whwere you can see the forked tail and the giant hooked bill.

Olá Gerrit, this sky is gorgeous and you made a wonderful composition of the birds' sillouettes against it. It almost seems as if they were hanged on the top of the mast by invisible strings. Really nice.

Prachtige kleuren in de lucht hier en samen met de donkere voorgrond waar het schip net mooi uitgelicht wordt, vormt het een passende achtergrond voor de dynamische vlucht van deze grote vogels. Mooi en sfeervol werk en bedankt voor de WS. Ik ben benieuwd naar deze nieuwe serie.

Gerrit, les oiseaux sur ce ciel font la beauté du cliché. J'aime leur graphisme très pur et léger en opposition avec le bas de la photo. Du beau travail !

Bonjour, cher Gerrit,
Ce vol de frégates au-dessus de ce voilier se balançant mollement au gré des vagues, devient rare à travers nos régions, elles recherchent plutôt les pays aux rivages maritimes tropicaux.
Merci, Gerrit, de nous présenter cette frégate dont le nom a été utilisé pour une marque de voiture française (Renault).

The birds remind me of the Siberian geese that congregate around the North South Korea border / DMZ area, during the winter. Superb sharpness & colour in this dramatically lit sunset. Good colour & tfs!

That wonderful sky makes a perfect background for the silhouettes of the birds. The third/2third composition is just right with the inclusion of the boat in the scene. Good work.

What a stunning photo; the dark silhouettes of the birds against the evening clouds. I've added it to "Birds in Flight" Thanks for including the detail in the WS; I thought the tail was egret-like legs. I've never seen a Frigatebird in flight like this.

A romantic, inspiring shot that denotes life and the sea, focussed upon the birds. The boat is partially silhouetted, with the form of the fisherman seen in the stern. The pinkish glow from the clouds lends a warm ambience, and the birds aloft seem to be singing and soaring, enjoying their life. Well captured...later.

A great shot. The composition has a few very interesting elements and with many graphism.
The big birds flying and emphasized well in the sky they are a magnificent detail, which gives very much dynamism to the photo. The sky, the boat and the sea, with his light and his colors, add many beauty to the set.

Very well done here. I like the soft pastel colors in the low light. You've captured silhouettes of the birds, but we still see some detail in the ship. I like your choice of a square frame for this shot. Nicely composed.
Did you use a filter of any sort here?

Dag, Gerrit. De silhoetten van de vogels komen zeer goed uit op de mooie hemel waar sommige wolken heel speciale kleuren hebben. Mooie compositie met twee derde voor de hemel en een derde voor de zee en het schip.

I have tried a lot for capturing such moments, but the results are half as exciting as this picture of yours...the flight of birds in silhouette creates a great impact against the wonderful sky...did you do sepia toning in the bottom part? It definitely enhances the appeal

the mood in this slight darkness is more quiet than working, even seeing the guy in his boat working. I like the colors and the composition with the boat and birds.
