[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
In the eastern Dutch region of Twente life is quite a bit slower then in the western part of the Netherlands. For many Dutch originally coming from the western part of the Netherlands the border is around 50 km east of Amsterdam, everything else is foreign land. The land looks different after Amersfoort coming from the west ... no more polders, no clay but real old land on sand. Small scale landscapes instead of the open (boring) polders.
Coming from the east myself I couldn't care less that the originally western Dutchies think this way. It leaves more to enjoy for those who do know and estimate the value and quality of the east.

This is one of the many small farms you can find in the Twente region, nicely situated between the old naturally grown trees.
If you happen to visit the Netherlands someday, take a chance and go east or south for that matter, but leave the Randstad area in the west and find yourself in a different country. Still the Netherlands though it is.

This photo was taken near Denekamp, a small town about 25km north of Enschede and Hengelo, not too far from the German border (and that truly is foreign land).

Hallo Harko,

Hi Harko, I have never seen cows with large white stripes round them before, I like this photo due to the great colour & truly excellent light, those trees stand-out brilliantly against that clear blue sky, the sharp focus is superb & overall a great picture, kind regards Wilson.

a wonderfull photograph. the colours are vivid and lively but at the same time the whole is tranquil and peacefull like the east of the netherlands itself.

And of course the sentiment is right too. The netherlands is more than just the same old polders again and again. Of course the old cities like Haarlem, Delft, Leiden et al are gorgeous, but there is more to this country than those places alone.
