Photographer’s Note

One more aviation related picture from my side. This one was also taken at the annual open days of the Dutch air force, just as http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/Europe/Netherlands/photo34422.htm.
As this Dutch F-16 was flying higher than the German Tornado on the other picture, I couldn't make use of the trees to catch the speed in the picture. Therefore, I tried to capture the action by waiting for an opportunity during the flying display where the pilot retracts his landing gear, lits the afterburner of the engine (see the fire in the tail) and uses the artificial smoke at the tips of the wings.

The open days of the air force are always very popular events for the Dutch people. This year's edition attracted around 300.000 visitors to Twenthe air base.

P.S. Answer to robiuk: unfortunately taking pictures of these fast moving jets keeps me most of the time from taking notes on shutter speeds and apertures. However, I think the settings for this picture were 1/500sec, F8, 300mm.
