Photographer’s Note
A souvenir of my boating days, I took this shot in the harbour of Delfzijl. The Krusenstern was one of the many windjqmmers participating in the Ail Delfzijl event. The weather was not of the best but it was dry (and ice cold). This is a scan of a colour photo. I scanned it at 600 dpi and used Adobe Photoshop to turn into a B&W picture. I used the light channel of labcolor. As the photo turned out a bit light I duplicated the background layer using 'multiply' to obtain this result. Cropped and resized to a square format.
The ship was built in 1926 in Bremerhaven and was baptised 'Padua'. It was the last 4-mast barque to sail the Chile trade route around the Horn. After WW II it was handed over to the Sovjet Union as war compensation, and the name changed to 'Krusenstern'. Its homeport is Kaliningrad.

Hallo John!
I have heard a lot about this ship and its really interesting and uncommon history. Your photo shows it's shape in a wonderful way and this cloudy sky is a good backdrop. What a "confusing" (for a landlubber ;-) and large rigging! A contrubution really in terms of TE!
Greetings from warm and sunny Westphalia!

Witaj John!
I know this boat :)
Your photo is from archive ;
Good frame and composition.
The black and white increase this emotion.
Well done.

Hello John,
I know this ship but I have never seen it in reality. I am not sure your should have converted this image into B&W, but I know that sometimes scanned images turn out to have strange colours and are better to be B&W instead.
There is some noise in the sky (as the result of PP work, I suppose) but on the whole it is not too disturbing.
I like the POV, and the composition (though the crop on the right seems to be a little too tight...).
Beautiful ship! intresting photo, indeed! almost historical :)
Best regards,
Elena

Hi John,
Awesome tall ship. Cloudy sky suits well for a background to ropes and masts. I guess B&W was a better choice for this weather, and it also adds some feeling of nostalgy.
