This picture doesn't show people longing for the end of their lives. You see people enjoying mudflat hiking ((Wadlopen) Mudflat hikers are people who, with the aid of a tide table, use a period of low water to walk and wade on the watershed of the mudflats, especially from the Frisian mainland coast to the Frisian islands.
The Wadden Sea, a belt of the North Sea, is well suited to this traditional practice.

i myself have tried mudwalking in north sea, it is very funny and quite relaxing!
I really like the vertical format and the slight reflection of the people in the wet mud.

very unusual way of walking, well taken from the back to show the difficulty of the trek. The POV enhances the foot traces in the mud.

So, you were also having a mud-walk.
People normally avoid stepping on a pinch of mud, but you were going for it.
We in Turkey, go to Dalyan to have mud bath. With sulphur in it, it is supposed to give you youth and beauty. This practice in the photo seems relaxing indeed.

your use of a portrait formattogether with a low pov has enhanced the sense of being there.I feel I am about to fall flat on my face into the mud. I live on the Solway estuary whch is mostly mud flats and so this has a familiar feel to me. Not that people here arrange group mudflat walks but I recently walked out on to muddy sands at low tide.

I can understand why people enjoy walking (I walk regularly with friends too and often through muddy places) but I can't understand why people would want to waddle through mud here when you have some other beautiful places and scenery in the Netherlands. But perhaps your have just concentrated on the mud and avoided the fine scenery in this excellent photograph!
I love how you have concentrated on the foreground mud and you have shown its depth and stickiness to very good effect with the group of colourfully dressed hikers spread out in front before the distant horizon - which looks a long way off.
Lovely light and colours, perfect tones and contrasts (especially in the mud!) and excellent depth of field and sharpness throughout.
