Photographer's Note

The Markermeer is a 700 km2 freshwater inlet on the north sea in Flevoland and is situated nearby its sibling, the Ijsselmeer. It's used as a reservoir and a buffer against floodwaters and droughts. In 2003 the Netherlands was hit by drought, and several minor dams were endangered. Water from the Markermeer was used to keep the area surrounding Amsterdam wet. Lelystad dam Enkhuizen also called the Markerwaarddijk and the Lelydijk is visible, the road that runs on the dike is the N302 and is used by 8500 vehicles per day with a speed limit of 100 km/h.
