rather typical view from the Place du Palais towards La Condamine district of Monaco. shot was taken around noon, therefore the quite harsh light.

according to Wikpedia, Monaco is the second-smallest independent nation after Vatican City - 1.96 square kilometers, and the world's most densely populated country - approximately 23000 inhabitants per square km. I hope the shot illustrates the latter.

Hi Kristine, this is a great photo. I like how you framed the photo with no free space, just full of buildings.
Nice composition and POV.
Good job again.

Daniel

Kristine-

Nice use of telephoto compression here. You can't help but think of the multitude of people who live here. You almost feel difficult to breath while looking at the shot, just too many people, and not enough room.

You mention the time of day, and the fact that it was harsh light. Part of photography is about using the light to enhance the mood of the photograph. This would be an entirely different shot with the sexy light of dawn or dusk. It would have put forth a totally different feel.

Your note speaks of the density of Monaco. This shot illustrates it perfectly. If your note was talking about the throngs of tourists, or the wonderful seaside light, or the beauty of the red roofs against the more modern high rise apartment buildings, then you would have taken the photo at the wrong time of day. As is, with the appropriate note, you have no need to editorialize about the harsh lighting.

I would like to have seen the verticals of the apartment buildings straight, but I'm just nit-picking now.

Thanks, and a wonderful example for the use of TE!

perfect title Kristine...quite clever

This image is everything a TE image should be (at least in my humble opinion). It is an interesting and well thought out photograph, meant to represent a certain culture or other travel experience that the rest of the TE community may not have yet come to know.

Having been to Monaco myself, I know first hand just how dense the province truly is. That said, I know what an achievement this photo is. The way you have captured it so clearly, in this very sharp and distinct composition says a lot for your ability.

Very well done.

Hello Kristine,
A very good composition. The cropping highlights the extreme density of population in Monaco, the red roofs in the foreground provide a fine contrast to the facades in the background. Very well done.
Gert

Hello Kristine,
I really like the contrast between the red brick roofs and the otherwise modern looking buildings you captured in this shot. The buildings tightly pack the frame and you gave a well thought out title. Great photo.

Erdem

ciao, ciao, kristine! :) if find the harsh light to be a mood enhancer in your foto. it makes the city walls to appear "less human" and "harsher", which works nicely to accentuate the mood of a "tight community". well seen and captured!

my compliments,
kristaps

Hello Kristine! This looks a little crowded to say the least :) I don't mind the harsh light, it somehow suits this busy place. I work with someone that owns a flat here and obviously it is for tax reasons. Strange world, I prefer country life but some people never get enough thinking about their tax problems. Well done job, Kristine, also the frame goes well. Have a wonderful evening, Barbara.

Hi kristine,
Your shot reminds me of mine latest shot On TE;My Shimla. Observing this shot I think I should have also given the title as Tight Community to my shot.
Its the reddish brown colour in both the compositins which attracts immediately.
Both compositions consists of some trees, and some amount of blue tones.
Well The concrete has the last laugh in both of the compositions.
And i think......yours is a better one.

Regards,
rajeev

Hi Kristine,

maybe is typical view but is is an excellent view for me. I do not why I like dense city structures so much (maybe because we do not have them), but they always make me question about lives living there. So many, so many different, how do they feel living here. Do they like it? Not? From here we can see how colourfull it is (red roofs, different balconies, facades, but is this olso noticable from down there? Or is it just another gray day as majority of them. Yes, i feel very philosophical today. :P

Kind regards,
Jeri

Hi, Kristine -

This looks more like Hong Kong than Monaco, certainly not my image of the place - but then, I've only seen it on TV, things like the Grand Prix race. This really gives a different slant on it!

Best,
Dan
