The Oceanographic Museum was inaugurated in 1910 by Monaco's modernist reformer, Prince Albert I. This monumental architectural work of art has an impressive façade towering above the sea, towering over the sheer cliff face to a height of 279 feet (85.04 meters). It took 11 years to build, using 100,000 tons of stone from La Turbie.
The museum houses remarkable collections of various species of sea fauna (starfish, seahorses, turtles, jellyfish, crabs, lobsters, rays, sharks, sea urchins, sea cucumbers, eels, cuttlefish etc.) both stuffed and in skeletal form. The museum's holdings also include a great variety of sea related objects, including model ships, sea animal skeletons, tools, weapons, etc.
An aquarium is housed in the basement of the museum which showcases a spectacular array of flora and fauna. 4000 species of fish and over 200 families of invertebrates can be seen. It features a presentation of Mediterranean and tropical marine ecosystems.
Jacques Cousteau was its director for many years, beginning in 1957.

Gran bella foto Vinicio,

Complimenti, Sandro

Hallo Vinicio!
I've been there many years ago - without a camera...
Your photo shows in an impressive way what we are polluting, what we use as a dump. There's a wonderful fascination in this picture ... a great one!
Greetings from very wet Germany - and have a nice weekend!

Fascinating shot, Vinicio, taking advantage of the pretty light, and well composed, not an easy one, congratulations, Daniel

Ciao Vinicio.
Ciao.
Bobo.

Ciao Vinicio,
You only want comments in your latest photos, and this is something interesting. I guess this is an elongated "no points day" for you. Well, i think, half of TE would eventually leave here, if there were no points exchange, it is unfortunately the bizzare human nature :(
The image is fantastic of course, without showing the borders of the aquarium and the visitors look like standing in front of a great BG. Complimenti,
Deniz

Hello Vinicio,
I remember my visit in Monaco many yearsback but unfortunately had no chance to see this place. You showed it in a superb way.
Thanks for sharing,
