Sky Mirror, by the British (Mumbai-born) artist Anish Kapoor, is a concave mirror in polished stainless steel measuring 2.5 metres in diameter that 'makes the world turn upside down, giving the illusion of bringing the sky down to street level.' It stands in front of the Monte Carlo Casino, along the esplanade which is set in well manicured tree-lined gardens facing the building.
This sculpture was given to Monaco by Mrs. Lily Safra; a socialite and philanthropist who supports numerous foundations, organizations, and charities. The artist said, 'Lily saw Sky Mirror and decided to offer it as a gift to the Principality. Prince Albert was "brave" enough to exhibit it on the Place du Casino - such a symbolic setting of the Principality.'

A fantastic effect by a concaved mirror, Jason, trully an intriguing reflection.
I'd get even closer to take the photo "right-on-the-eye", my friend.
Great spotted the view, where it was directed, with the beautiful palace of the Casino.

Good morning, Jason,
I remember this Mirror on the TE, very interesting attraction for the guests of this place. The spring is coming and I'd like to travelling. Thanks for this post.
Have a great new day!

Marvellous work of art, and beautifully capture through your lens! It really looks as if we could glance into another world! I will not miss it in my summer trip!
Beautifully framed with all the background buildings!
All the best,

incredible that you managed to get such a crystal clear reflection inside the circle, thats a pretty amazing sculpture! reflection shots are always cool, but its not everyday you get to see one that has the wonderful backdrop of the architecture of Monaco as well. Excellent use of the DOF on this to have the background slightly blurred while maintaining such clarity on the globe. Really nice shot, cheers.
All the best

A lovely & unusual picture, I love the effect created by the reflection through the mirror cutting into the background, nicely managed light & excellent composition
The houses create beautiful background behind it. Well captured.
Have a nice evening,

clever shot this. Made me double take when I saw it in the T/nails. It is a superb execution with a world within a world feel about it. I remember the casino , but this magic mirror was not there when I visited a fair few years ago now. Bet you had a field day getting different angles and shots here, I would have gone bananas. A stuning shot and creative presentation.
Regards - Brian.

What a surreal image - a kind of 360 degrees panorama in one photo! A reflection of the famous Monte Carlo Casino is just fantastic, so clear and sharp for such an unusual concave reflecting surface.
Congratulations on such a unique shot!

The picture really drew my attention all the way to the background. The reflection is rather intriguing, sharp but also slightly distorted, providing an unusual and interesting view of the casino. The colourful bokeh in the background is also very nice and really makes the subject stand out. Good work.

A really cool and mind-bending shot, Jason - still trying to figure out the exact shape of this mirror, as the effect in the photo is one of two dimensionality. Regardless, really creative shot with great colors. The DOF in the far BG is perfect, setting the really sharp mirrored perspective off from the real perspective. Really a cool effect. Thanks!

Now that is an unusual but very effective take on the famous Monaco Casino. Great eninguity and fantasy you showed there. The reflection in the globe is so pin sharp against the blurred background that it stands out beautifully.
have a good evening

You found my Sky Mirror shot, and now I'm seeing yours. :-) This one certainly has a beautiful reflection inside, with the ornate facade of the casino. I like the blue shades of the fountain, too, and the way it makes a semicircle in the bottom of the mirror. BTW, I checked out your website, and your NYC photos there are really great!

Very interesting and attractive picture with special regards to the sharp fg, blurred bg, colors and symmetrical composition! Great results for an excellent idea!
TFS - congrats,

this is awesome!I think Anish Kapoor is the same man who made "The Bean" in Chicago.Something in his style. But contrary to The Bean, this one creates much more surreal effect. It´s like we admired two different scenes in one shot!
Excellently exectured shot!
Have a nice weekend

A well-seen and well-executed scene, resulting in an original picture. I really like the crisp, cutting edge of the mirror against the blurry background.
With best wishes,

this one is really nice! I guess you are that Person in the back in the middle of the fountain (or pool) using a high focal length. The focal length also helps to put the background closer to the mirror, making a nice perspective!

COMPLETELY surrealist effect -- well seen and well-shot! As we've been discussing with the wide-angle lenses, I recognize that the difference of a few inches can shift EVERYTHING in the reflecting ball, so I commend your fine placement of the Casino and the three branches from the fountain. Fantastic work!

indeed, crazy effect! it would be interesting first to see it in real, then to see several fotografers trying a pic of this object in order to compare several effects;)
