as I was browsing year-old photos from short holidays in Southern France and Monaco in July of last year, I realised how desperately I need vacations NOW (don't we all?...) and since "none" is what I'll get in a foreseeable future, I decided to try and use photos from last summer to at least conjure a FEELING of vacations.
the shot was taken around noon from a park in Monaco Ville (one of the 5 principal areas of Monaco) overlooking Fontvieille (the industrial area on the southwest Monaco) harbour. the dark patch in the upper right corner is the rock the boat is tied to.

hello Kristine, great photo. Very nice composition putting the objects in a diagonal. Great POV. Where were you standing?

a nice, diagonal composition in your shot, but what really draws me to this foto is the color of the water. the tone is exactly as i remember it from monaco. unfortunately. i cannot pinpoint the right english word in my brain right now to describe it accurately.
as far as "in desparate need of vacation", i find the foto speaks out loudly. the overall frequency of bird droppings on the doc and the cabin-cover suggests the lone boat has been impatiently waiting for vacationers for quite some time.
ps. found the word i was looking for to describe the color: dark turquoise. (smile)

You must have been reading my mind. One more week and my life will seriously slow down and be back to normal and I can't wait. About the photo; I really like the angles and lines created by such a simple photograph, very eye-catching. What I find humorous about the photo is that when you look closely there is a lot of bird crap all over the boat and dock!

Ah, the holidays! Let's hope they come bald! The shot is very nice. I like the geometrical mood, the two subject taken so close that there isn't anything more around! It's beautiful so. Thanks.

Great composition and only upon closer inspection I noticed all the gull-s***. Now the title makes even more sense :-)

very creative point of view and composition. I like the color of the water in contrast with the other soft colors.

Beautiful shot from high pov. Good contrast on a simple yet creative composition. Love the way you use drop shadow on the picture in the frame.

It's a big improvement over the old one. Not only does the site look better, but it's much

Cher vampire ;-) -
I saw this one on the random display. Great use of minimalism here (one of my favorite techniques, so I'm always on the lookout for it). Good positioning and use of the strong diagonal.
Monaco is so small (smaller than Central Park) that one tends to forget how diverse it is. Thanks for reminding us.
(And you have gotten some vacation since, right?)
gunbud (34066) 2008-05-31 19:35
Excellent diagonal placement of the dock in this beautiful vertical presentation. This simple image is set off by the exceptionally clear turquoise color of the sea that the dock and boat contrast so effectively with. Like you I'm all for vacations.

i am desperate to have one currently, doen't need to be Monaco...just go unwind that is, Kristine.
i love the ala 3d framing.

I understand you perfectly...I also need desperately vacations...more or less 50 or 60 years!. I have also thought of another tittle for your shot, what do you think about "The solitude of the rich" ;), Oh, Oh, I think that is insane envy!
Good shot, amiga.
Have a nice day

Rummaging through your older posts, this captured my attention. Excellent diagonal compo. & as Kristaps has mentioned the thing which draws attention is the turquoise colour of the water, contrasting with the pier & the boat. I like it a lot.

a striking graphic composition. As always your title is also quite a masterpiece.
Best wishes for 2009
