Tiraspol is the capital city of Transdinestr. It's a breakaway region of Moldova that has unilaterally declared independence but it is not recognised by anyone else. But they do have their own army, police force and currency. They also use a different language to the rest of the country, preferring to speak Russian rather than Moldovan.
The stall you see here is a common sight in Tiraspol. It is a street vendor for beer. Weary shoppers queue up for a quick glass. The writing on the top of the stall is in cyrillic script and says PIVO (pronounced peeva) and is Russian for beer. It's a warm day and the lady is clearly doing a roaring trade. |

Nice capture of daily life.
it is good to see some of your photos from earlier travels. I see you have improved a lot. not saying this is bad, just your new stuff is better :)
I was in Transdneistr this past march, it was one of the ugliest places I had been to. everything was grey, buildings, people, land, sky... a sea of grey. It is nice to see that green can exist there. I saw that Magnum did a photo story about Transdneistr lately. I can't find the link for it now but it was cool.

Transnistria would be an interesting place to visit and it is somewhere I would like to see. Interesting details in your photograph.
