A view from Bucharest Street (stradă București) in Chișinău, capital of Moldova. This is not the absolute centre of the city, but only a few blocks from it.
Moldova is a former part of the Soviet Union and the poorest country in Europa with a GDP/capita approximately one 30th of that of Sweden or the USA and less than half of that of Albania. The post-Soviet poverty is clearly seen everywhere and even more so in the rural areas than in relatively affluent Chișinău.

Hi Gert, I like the feel of this shot, with the lonely woman against the backdrop of the interesting wall (I remember those strange-looking burglar bars from Armenia as well). Nice clear light and interesting-looking shadows. Well done!

Hello Gert. Now you are traveling as a globetrotter in Bucharest. At the green-painted wall I read Bukuresti Str. The area does not look very inviting. Only a young woman waiting for an opportunity to cross the street. The photo shows your good observation for all the things people do. Very beautiful. Rgds, Wolfgang.

Very soft and pleasant colours, a good harmony between the dark red shirt and the light greenish wall. A fine street view from a new country to add to your TE map.
agjika (4309) 2011-11-28 12:25
It is clearly worse than Albania, they have the burglar bars from the inside of the glass whereas in Albania there are (use to be) from the outside!
I do not know whether I like it or not but Albania is made to represent some sort of etalon, unit of measure of how bad something is or can be. I have seen it a few times only recently in the British Media e.g. The rate of mothers dying during child birth is higher in the UK than Albania or that Albanian pupils are better at reading for fun, maths etc. that their UK counterpart.
Your photo makes me feel sorry for this badly ignored and underservedly treated nation.
Thanks for the sharing

This poor place doesn't look the most prepossessing of cities and that is explained well in your note. And, of course, from what you say, the rural areas are even worse affected by poverty.
The dull monotone colours and general run down appearance make this look an unhappy place. At first I thought the lady was holding a camera with an enormous telephoto lens, but I rather think it is a bag or a coat which she is holding.

Boa noite Gert
Very interesting register. The note is very informative. Things that we, from this other part of the world , dont't have a real idea.

Another country for you! This image certainly conveys the economic status of this county. For the centre of the capital there does not seem to be much happening. Informative notes. Thanks for sharing, Marlene

Ciao dear Gert,
interesting and true testimony of life in Moldova, a Country that unfortunately could not develop as other European States. Your photo composition is very significant of this reality, especially that of the suburbs and the countryside. Excellent work, dear friend, congratulations!
Ciao, have a nice Wednesday!

Mnoge su zemlje postale zrtve siromastva, posle rasturanja velikih socijalistickih zemalja ...
Lep pogled na mesto sa usmljenom zenom koja ceka i staru kucu, lepa fotografija.
Dobar tekst, snimak i kompozicija.
Prijatno vece sa lepim vremenom, kod nas je temperatura naglo pala ispod 0 C stepeni.
Many countries have become victims of poverty, after the dismantling of large socialist countries ...
Nice view of the place with the lonely woman who is waiting and the old house, beautiful images.
Good text, image and composition.
Pleasant evening with nice weather, here is the temperature suddenly dropped below 0 degrees C.
All the best.

Hi my dear Gert
Sorry for my dull reaction weekday as usual, but I enjoy your garalley very much every night.
Your new sereis for Moldova starts?
So nice and wisely frameworked shot by allocating the lady at the corner. The light sky blue wall is so attractive and fresh!
Thanks for sharing with your finest work and have a good Saturday,
Takero from cold rainy Tokyo.

I especially like this one. It is both a street scene and exhibits graphic qualities.Nice light and shadowplay.

An another athmospher well collected with this image very well composed. Excellent and efficience large horizontal formta very well selcetd. Good balalnce in the composition with the lady well off-centred on the left nad the repetition of windows which give rythm.

Another country to have charted...Moldova, one such country we don't have much contributions from. Interesting crop to a pano format. The lady is in the correct position in the frame...I wonder what she's carrying...looks like a giant telephoto lens at first glance. A nice documentary work!
nobuikehonda (3848) 2011-12-06 16:19
I find the framing of this image very fascinating. I like how the lady occupies one of the lower left hand corners of this long panoramic format. And in the direction she looks, it makes one wonder what there is to see. The depicted place seems to be not one of the wealthiest neighbourhoods. But She stands alone there. I also like how the windows on the blue wall rhythmically reinforce her view. It is a very well thought out image and composition.
With my very best regards,
Have a very nice week, Gert
nikkitta (9003) 2011-12-08 11:33
Never saw an image from Moldava and this city seems dangerous for the barred windows
Anyway great way to compose the capture in horizontal with the waiting woman at the far left
I also like these street scenes
jajko (775) 2011-12-10 23:56
power of this photography is rythm in windows and colours.
interesting comopistion. waiting waiting waiting waiting.
Bournazel (6222) 2011-12-12 6:21
excellent picture with the woman as scale in the left , the panoramic format and the grey/blue colors
abmdsudi (32515) 2011-12-17 22:38
You have captured the mood of the place perfectly in composing this spontenous moment so well. The colours and textures all around the woman are marvellous and the inclusion of her is inspired as the shot woudn't have the same impact without her and how they contrast with the woman's clothes. The strong shadow adds to the image and.you can almost feel the heat but the high sun angle does not hurt this a bit because the angle on the wall is quite shallow for lots of good detail. I'm pleased to see all the historic background, as I also want to know the history behind this picture. I must say that for me the woman steals the show. Perhaps only keen urban lifesnapper can recognise this potential, unusual and unknown rare spot as shown. It looks like you had good fun photographing the diversity so superbly and of course your customary write ups and japes have been most entertaining. This mini series has been hugely enjoyable to view. Fine shot to a fine serie Gert, both in content and write-ups. Picture that tells stories! Great
kato (9556) 2011-12-18 1:47
You're capturing well this street photograph by a good composition and excellent tone/clarity, so it's impressive to see beautiful wall with blue color and some windows. And, the shadow projected to the wall draws out a good effect in this image.
macjake (45588) 2012-01-26 13:20
I like that you extended the street until the Bucuresti sign on the right, at first i didnt' know why, but its clear now.
and obviously the human presence is much needed here, as is the woman's look down the street.
enjoy your day
notrap (5010) 2012-03-19 13:08
there are not so many places on earth where you haven´t been....
Moldova - surely not overcrowded with tourists.
A nice shot because of the colors.
Tigerlily (2413) 2012-11-28 9:38
Interesting shot. What was she waiting for? It gave me a thought that it could also be a good life.. a long road ahead of her....I met a man and a woman on the train in early 90's. I couldn't talk to them, because of the language barrier.I offered some sweets and chocolate to them..while we tried to talk to each other or ease the boredom. I noticed that they didn't eat them, instead, they put them in their pocket. I couldn't understand..I asked them.. I learned that they were not couple, they both had children at home. The sweets would be brought back home for their children..it gave me mixed feelings even after all these years..I don't get much news about Moldova nowadays.. I hope that life is getting better.
