Photographer’s Note
This is a very old house in an old city district. Pay attention to the fact that the steps lead to the window, rather than to the door. Why? This is not by chance! The house has witnessed several wars and revolutions, and during these events its dwellers' property and even lives were in danger. People made every effort to transform their houses into castles and left only entrances from the yard which were easier to protect (one could get into the yard only through the gates which were closed). The door on the shot is changed into the window, rather than bricked up. Such "transformations" can frequently be seen on the territory of the former Soviet Union.
