Photographer’s Note

Saltworks of Ghajn Barrani on the island of Gozo.
Here on 2 kilometers limestone cliffs one be worked in saltworks.
This day the wind agitated the sea, the waves came to break on the rocks and to fill the small basins... then it is imagined that local people did not have any more but to expect the effect of the sun and heat to collect the famous salt.

Hello Jean,
A very interesting landscape you show us here of these salt pans right on the edge of the Mediterranean. Good well balanced composition with coast line taken on the diagonal and a long perspective towards the rocky headland in the distance. Excellent capture of the waves crashing against the rocks. Good tones and clarity.

What an interesting place! I've never seen something like this. The diagonal of the coast line works very well here and the colour's contrast between land and sea is great! Great!

Greetings Jean. THis is a superb shot of an unusual place - it looks like some kind of ancient archaeological site. The colours and the light are very well captured. The waves are very impressive as they crash on to this fortress of salt. Well done.

Belle image, les formes sinueuses des salines sont intéressantes. Ta compo est bonne. J'aurais peut-être donné un poil de contraste pour donner un peu de relief à l'ensemble.

Hi Jean. I've never seen such a pattern on a beach. That makes for a fascinating foreground. The fast shutter speed shows off the power of the waves well. I think I see some barrel distortion that my software DxO takes care of for me automatically. Beautiful shot Jean.

Bonjour Jean,
Ton POV en hauteur permet de profiter au maximum des dessins formés par ces salines avec une belle vuie d'ensemble sur les lieux. Les teintes chaudes des falaises tranchent avec le bleu sombre de la mer et les vagues ajoutent une touche de dynamisme. La mer avait l'air d'être plutôt agitée ce jour là.

Salut Jean,
Ma premiere impression est que c'est tres vide comme endroit, c'est sur que au milieu du sel et battu par les vents c'est pas le genre d'endroit ou on irait spontanement se promener, et encore moins promener son matos photo !
Ton pov dominant est bien vu pour apprecier le graphisme des salines, j'ai hesite a faire un WS mais ca ressemblerait trop a une croisade du blanc et je n'ai pas d'actions chez les fabricants de cosmetiques ;-)

Un salé marrant, je veux dire un marais salant naturel façonné par la mer, c'est merveilleux avec la mer en furie en prime.
Cela forme de beaux bassins naturels.
Ce serait intéressant par temps calme de photographier à ras le sol.

Interesting documentation of these saltworks, Jean. Are the holes natural or manmade? It would have been nice to have someone there walking or even collecting salt to give some reference to the image.

Hello Jean.
Nice patterns created by the salt on the ground creating a great visual impact of the foreground and middle of the photo. I like also the way you've splitted the photo in two parts of sea and land with this diagonal view, and also the fact we still might see the breaking waves and their strenght.
I like a lot the dark colours of the sea and the light of this photo.
