The Azure Window (Maltese: Tieqa Żerqa) is a Limestone natural arch on the Maltese island of Gozo. It is situated near Dwejra Bay on the Inland Sea. The formation, which was created after two limestone sea caves collapsed, is popular with scuba divers as well as tourists.
The arch is made of a limestone known as Lower Corallian. This is the oldest rock found on the Maltese islands. The rock, which is subject to erosion, gives Malta its distinctive coast while the Upper Corallian influences the landscape of the interior. Thickness of the limestone ranges from 23 metres (75 feet) near Fort Chambray on Gozo up to 207 metres (679 feet) around Marsaxlokk on Malta. The 28 metre (92 foot) high arch consists of yellow to pale-grey limestones comprising the remains of the marine organism.
The arch is disintegrating because large pieces of rock have begun to fall from the underside of the arch. The rate suggests that the arch will completely disintegrate within a few years. Its dangerous condition has led to warning notices being placed along the cliffs to stop people walking over the top of the arch. In April 2012 a large piece of rock was dislocated and resulted in the window being made larger and more unstable, as well as a reduction in its nearly perfect oblong shape.

The Azure Window makes a fine natural window in your well composed shot, ensuring that viewers are attracted to it.
The f/g rock helps to give a sense of depth.
The use of light and shadows reveals excellent textural details.

this has been thoughtfully composed with the big rock well placed in the FG before the Arch giving the image a really nice depth.
You have handled the harsh lighting very well with the slight blue tone adding nicely to the overall effect.

this place is fantastic. It takes only a simple composition to describe the setting but it also takes great skill to show the colours and textures of rocks and sea under such strong light that doesn't hit the scenery directly. The shadows are well defined and exalt the natural sculptures. The colours are so vibrant and attractive. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

The most known rock in Malta, Stephen, and it justifies own reputation: the sight is outstanding, the size and shape are intriguing.
Though you had not include a scale reference element, there is one figure in blue atop, so we can comprehend.
Fine shot, saturated and sharp, fabulous color of blue.

Such natural beauty, a shame to hear its slowly falling apart, but I guess that is the way in nature. At least your beautiful capture of this place will preserve its memory forever, and this is a scene worthy of any geological fan seeing. Beautiful contrast between the color of the rock and that incredible blue!
Thanks as always

Gidday dear Stephen
Ahh this place is just the bee's knees. What stunning colours and an amazing sea arch. The textures in the rock face are quite spectacular and the sea looks soooo swimmable.
Thanks for sharing, you lucky boy

This is a fine composition with excellent colours and pin sharp details. Here too, the harsh light managed really well. It's a pity that this beautiful formation will disintegrate and vanish in the future.
Thanks for sharing.
Have a nice Sunday
