Maltese landscape, Dingli country
The countryside here is ideal for walking. Dingli today is a quiet, rural area though in late medieval times it was one of Malta's largest parishes. The name of ‘Dingli’ was probably derived from the surname of some Maltese families who owned the land in this area. Dingli is a locality near the sea and is full of cultivated fields, but at the same time stands imposingly very high above the sea. The cliffs reach a height of around 300 meters, the highest place in Malta. The village of Dingli lies on a plateau some 250 metres above sea level just in land from the spectacular Dingli Cliffs. From the cliffs there are views inland of nearby Buskett Gardens and Verdala Palace. Within the limits of Dingli are several prehistoric sites: the so-called `cart ruts', unexplained parallel tracks hewn in the rock; and several megalithic structures.
The Maltese Islands
Megaliths, medieval dungeons and Calypso's Cave – The Maltese Islands are positively mythic. The narrow meandering streets of their towns and villages are crowded with Renaissance cathedrals and Baroque palaces. As the countryside is dotted with the oldest known human structures in the world, the Islands have rightly been described as an open-air museum.
The Maltese archipelago lies virtually at the centre of the Mediterranean, with Malta 93km south of Sicily and 288km north of Africa. The archipelago consists of three islands: Malta, Gozo and Comino with a total population of 400,000 inhabitants over an area of 316sq km and a coastline of 196.8km (not including 56.01 km for the island of Gozo).
Malta is the largest island and the cultural, commercial and administrative centre. Gozo is the second largest island and is more rural, characterised by fishing, tourism, crafts and agriculture while Comino is largely uninhabited.
With superbly sunny weather, expansive beaches, a thriving nightlife and 7,000 years of intriguing history, there is a great deal to see and do. With a little help from any guidebook, captivating places of interest are immediately identified – the world famous Hypogeum selected as a place of World Heritage by UNESCO, prehistoric temples and grand palaces are but a few. An interesting photo of what in Australia at one stage became a huge pest - the prickly pears although some are grown these days for the fruit.

Good Morning George,
A most unusual and very informative view, with good notes, of Malta.
There are interesting textural contrasts in your horizontal layers and I like how the focal building is nestling, secretively, in the bushes.
Have a good day,

una ambientazione che ricorda tanto la mia terra.
Buona la luce con la casetta sullo sfondo e il muro di pietra in FG,

I like the layering effect here and the different mix of tones and textures to be seen as the eyes move from bottom to top of the image to the focal point offered by the building on top of the hill.

ficodindia e agave. Sembra di vedere una tipica immagine di Sicilia, invece qui è Malta.
Ottimo POV verticale e ottima gestione della luce.

Nice detail with this Mediteranean vegetation. Combined with a nice green garden and a piece of building makes a beautiful composition.
Have a great day.

This picture really speaks of the Mediterranean.
The drystone wall and prickly pears make this landscape unique.

Assez piquant comme image. Le focus s'est fait sur une partie des cactus et reste les autres un peu flou comme l'arrière plan.

Good evening George,
The photograph describes a superb landscape, with this spectacular cactus, without being really attracting:) the light is very pleasant. A beautiful quite made up image.

Bonjour George, un avant plan plien de piquant qui ouvre la scène avec sa sympathqiue petite porfondeur. Des couleurs naturelles sous des lumières maitrisées. Un sujet tout simple.
