A view inside one of courtyards in th Grandmaster's Palace, Malta. The so-called Neptune's Courtyard mentioned below did not seem open to the public. This shows the other one.
The Grandmaster's Palace located in Valletta currently houses the Office of the President of Malta and the House of Representatives, as well as being a heritage site run by Heritage Malta.
The site of the Grandmaster's Palace was originally an Auberge d'Italie. The Auberge was built in 1570 on the design of Girolamo Cassar. This was also the house of Eustachio del Monte, a nephew of Grandmaster Jean Parisot de Valette, founder of the city. In 1571 the Auberge was purchased and Cassar was once again commissioned to enlarge it into a palace.
Over the years, the Palace was enlarged and developed by successive Grandmasters to serve as their official residence. During the British period it served as the Governor's Palace. The Council of Government and the Malta Legislative Assembly (precursors to the present day House of Representatives) met here and it also was the first place to serve as the office of the Prime Minister.
The palace is built around two courtyards, one of which is dominated by a statue of Neptune. There are two entrances in the front on Palace Square as seen here and one entrance from Piazza Regina (Republic Square) just west of the National Library. The entrance to the state rooms is in the Neptune Courtyard via a spiral staircase.

Lovely view of this courtyard, my attention is called by this beautiful trees - ficus and jacaranda, as I suppose. Charming capture.

I like this very much, it is full of atmosphere. The beauty of the carvings and the architectural decoration on the Grandmaster's Palace is tempered by the vegetation, an absolute must to provide shade and colour in the face of extreme heat.
Have a lovely day,

a glorious shot of this little courtyard. Somewhere to escape the summer heat that must hit this city. A little man made oasis that looks beautiful in this excellent composition. Strikes a chord here today with the temperature in the 90's, and after a deluge and nature's light show last night, humidity is mind numbing!
Enjoy the weekend - B.

Valetta semble être une ville des plus photogéniques. J'aime beaucoup la couleur de ces fleurs. Il y en a beaucoup de semblables en Andalousie.Les couleurs ressortent très bien.

We see behind the courtyard the wonderful entrance with a wonderful balcon.
But your picture is very well with depth and perspective taken, this is more important.
Very well composition, excellent presentation.
Sharpness and clarity are perfect.
Nice done, TFS.
Have a nice weekend,

this is definitely a challenging theme, the vegetation and decoration of the courtyard must make it very difficult to capture a good and comprehensive view of the façade. You found a superb point of view to present the elegant façade over and through the garden. You also managed the light very aptly, to achieve pleasing clarity and fine, natural colours. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely day,

Nice place, and a perfect composition of it. I really like that you included the full whoosh of the circular fence, it softens the picture up very nicely. The building is great of course, but the real beauty here is the contrast of the yellow flowers to the purple hanging above.
Thanks as always

Les arbres aident à cadrer la façade. La prise de vue permet de voir les détails et les couleurs de la façade. La bonne luminosité valorise les couleurs de l'image. Bonne soirée.

Belli i colori, molto naturali.

The blue purple flowers of the jacaranda tree and the blue cyan windows at left contrast superbly against the yellow flowers in the circular garden bed. Good sharpness and punchy light contrasts. Excellent graphism and tight framing. Tfs!
