Photographer’s Note
This place is called the Upper Barrakka gardens in the capital city of Malta, Valletta.
These gardens have a magnificent view of the port.
Here some volunteers shoot one of the eleven-gun battery at the former Saluting Battery at the lower tier of the Upper Barracca Gardens in Valletta.Every day at mid day they shoot this cannon as a signal that it is mid day.
This is a capture of one of the guards.

Hi Thomas,
I think there is a lack of photos from Malta in this site. I need to thank you for posting all those. I like a lot this approach. It reveals something about your photography skills and tastes. The guard is well framed and the depth contributes to emphasize him in the compo. Very well done!
Regards,
Carlos

Bonjour,
belle photo de ce portrait au casque colonial.
Jolies couleurs, bonne netteté, le flou a l' arrière plan accentue le net du portrait.
Amitiés Thomas

Hi, Thomas,
I like the choice you made in composing this figure, with such a tight framing of the guard: neck, head, helmet, nothing more. This feature of the cloth (gauze?) wrapped around the helmet is very interesting. Is it there for first-aid in the event of an accident?
I'm curious about a technical detail: did you shoot this with a telephoto lens? (Shallow depth of field suggests that. And otherwise, how did you get so close?)
Thanks for the post,
- William
