207- Almond bloom, a photo from Malta, South

Photographer's Note

The Almond tree is a tree from the family of ROSACEA. It is the first tree to bloom at the end of winter. But in Malta, it was in bloom in the middle of winter, at the end of January !

The almond tree is one of the symbols of virginity : The bloom appearing much before the leaves, each branch is covered in white, like a bridal dress.

This tree needs a lot of light, sun and dry air. It grows happily on poor, rocky soils, which is exactly the case on the island .
Notice the stone wall. They are everywhere in Malta, the farmers having inexhaustibly ridded the fields of their stones, they built these stone walls around them, for some place to put the stones, and also to protect the crops from high winds.

Being a `gardener`I was impressed with your note.Also , I loved the almond flowers on this cold frosty morning here in Devon.
Just a suggestion, but I think I would crop a little off the left to make the picture stronger.

Really beautiful shot of this almond tree blooming in the middle of the winter. The composition is excellent with some of the flowers very close but where you also could see a great deal of tree and the environment including the stone wall. The depth is also really impressive. La pierre et les fleurs ont toujours fait bon ménage à cause de la juxtaposition paradoxale délicatesse-robustesse!
Il y a cependant ici un degré de finesse supplémentaire
apporté par la discrétion de l'ensemble, ce qui crée la douce magie de cette floraison hâtive et un tableau de musée!

Well, MarieLuise, we don't have almond trees around but I do enjoy their bloom in your wonderful picture. It reminds me of apple blossom a bit, wish I could see it as soon as possible but there's still a lot of snow here.

I didn't know almond has such beautiful blosoome. this is really a beautiful photo, love the flowers covering the tree with this pale color of mostly white with some pink tone. Even if the light is low you captured the whole scene nicely. I love it.
