206- Mosta, a photo from Malta, South

Photographer's Note

This view of Mosta was taken from the ramparts of Mdina at the end of the afternoon.
The view from the walls is awesome. Everytime someone got on and discovered what lay in front of them, the reaction was always the same "Whaou !!"
Malta is situated west of Valletta the capital and 4.5km north of Mdina the former capital where the photo was taken.
The contrast between the huge dome and the multitude of typical mediterranean houses is very noticeable.
It's the dome of "La Rotunda de Santa Marija Assunta" built between the 1830's and the 1860's.
The cupola is one of the largest in the world, with a diameter of 37,2m and a height of 61m.
10000 people can take place in this church, when the population of the city counts 19000. Malta is indeed a very catholic country, with a church, a chapel or a monastery in every street of a town.
The dome miraculously escaped destruction during the 2nd World War, when an Axis bomb hit it but failed to explode.

Je me souviens bien la Rotunda de Mosta mais je ne me rappelle pas cette vue depuis les remparts de Mdina :(
Le dôme est incroyablement impressionnant. Surtout quand on fait la comparaison avec les bâtiments environnants.
La lumière de fin d'après midi crée de belles teintes chaudes dans un beau contraste avec la partie supérieure et inférieure de l'image.

une vue fantastique depuis ce haut point visuel, où nous pouvons admirer le beau graphisme de l'architecture de la ville, avec les maisons et la magnifique coupole de l'église, dans un contraste très intéressant.
J'aime le subtile jeu de lumière et ombres, ainsi que la qualité des couleurs.
C'est une composition superbe.

Sensational this great perspective that offers a great panorama of the city. Impressive huge dome of the church that dominates the small houses of the population, ideally the WS with the interior view of the dome, very nice these warm tones of late afternoon.

P / D. Regarding your question, if it was possible to correct the distortion of the cloister cypress, I'll tell you that I've tried, but it has a lot of height and correct, the angles of the cloister walls are not well, you know when something is too high and have little space, the distortion can not be avoided.

Malta does seem to be an interesting place. It's a small country, but has such rich history and culture. I like the lighting in this photo, and the way the large dome stands out against the tightly-packed houses. The high POV allows for nice depth, too.

Fascinating view and the hugh dome being an integral part which is perfectly positioned pulling all the eyes in and there is an obvious contrast of architecture to the surrounding earth-toned dwellings. It's the subtle warm light imho, that has really boosted the impact of the picture. A historic sight so well taken. Congrats

P/s: I am curious about the small patches of rectangular greys on the some of cube houses, probably you have an explanation on this, Tq

Tout d'abord un grand merci d'être passée sur ma photo "île de Koss", magnifique souvenir ici aussi, avec mon minuscule appareil photo, mais qui ma offert malgré tout des images qui reste de beaux souvenirs...

The dome is quite huge when one compares with the surrounding buildings! The light you got is beautiful..low and pastel, which paints the scene in fine hues. Compared to the warm tones, the dark blue of the sky offers a fine contrast. Lovely work with good complimentary posts especially of the dome.
