A view over the Maltese landscape from the walls of the fortified city of Mdina.
Mdina, Città Vecchia, or Città Notabile, was the old capital of Malta. It is a medieval walled town situated on a hill in the centre of the island. Punic remains uncovered beyond the city’s walls suggest the importance of the general region to Malta’s Phoenician settlers. Mdina is commonly called the "Silent City" by natives and visitors. The town is still confined within its walls, and has a population of just under three hundred, but is contiguous with the village of Rabat, which takes its name from the Arabic word for suburb, and has a population of over 11,000
Evidence of settlements in Mdina goes back to over 4000 BC. It was possibly first fortified by the Phoenicians around 700 BC, because of its strategic location on one of the highest points on the island and as far from the sea as possible. When Malta had been under the control of the Roman Empire, the Roman Governor built his palace there. Legend has it that it was here, in around 60 CE, that the Apostle St. Paul lived after his shipwreck on the islands.
Mdina owes much its present architecture to the Arab period, from 870 until the Normans conquered Malta in 1091. They surrounded the city with thick defensive fortifications and a wide moat, separating it from its nearest town Rabat.

magnifico panorama, la vista è splendida e c'è molta profondità.
Belli i colori della campagna con il mare sullo sfondo.

I think this was the next, natural step, after seeing the view up to Mdina and detailing the streets inside Mdina; now we see how Mdina relates to the surrounding landscape.
I think you have had a problem with harsh light, but when you are on holiday, you cannot choose exactly which time of the day you are going to photograph.
You have given us a well composed and very extensive view from the height of the battlements.
Have a lovely day,

Is this an older shot? The color saturation is beautiful but reminds me a little of images from the 80's. Expansive view leading off to the sea in the distance, this is one of those shots I would like to spend ages studying to find every little detail.
Thanks as always

this Maltese landscape looks so mediterranean and so bright in the sunshine. Your picture includes a lot of characteristic features, it's very sharp and interesting. The vegetation, the dry atmosphere, the summery colours have been captured very aptly. The depth is superb and this looks like an aerial view. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great day,

Absolutely wonderful view of this unique, Maltese landscape.
l imagine that l am standing here...Brilliant feeling.
This is typical, if you are in a higher point of Malta, you can see the whole island and the sea in the distance.
l love this picture very much!

Green, yellow and white tones mingle beautifully on the wide landscape, Stephen, contrast by blue sky and the sea.
Early summer brought an aris texture to the fields, reminded me of Sicilia which is similar and not so far from Malta.
My best regards,
