It´s one of the pictures I took in Mdina-beautiful little town, which still has kept its own charm. And to see the hackney carriage on its narrow, old alleys gave me impression like I was stepped back in time.
Truly magnificent place for all those who like charm of narrow alleys.
And one thing more for all those, who plan to visit Malta. In Mdina is the best confectionery(Fontanella)on the whole Malta-try banofee:)
I couldn´t decided which version of the scene to post,so in WS you can see the other one.

Typical Maltese scene. I like the narrow street that keeps the coolness apart from the sun strong heat. Charming moment, well taken.

Good morning Krzysztof,
Those narrow streets in old towns built with consideration of future transportations, the horse and carriage can make the way through.
Fine spotted the moment and well amanged with variable light, as usually it creat difficulties on places like this. Archi.-details also shown superbly.

Dobar trenutak snimka i perspektiva, lepe boje.
Lepe fasade i trenutak.
Imajte lep dan, sve najbolje.
A nice view of the street and the moment the horse drawn ...
A good time recording and perspective, beautiful colors.
Beautiful facades and the moment.
Have a great day, all the best.

Superb scene, as I looked at the thumb nail, I was entranced by the narrow laneway with the beautiful light, and I was trying to figure out what was coming down into the scene before us. The last thing I expected was a carriage, a very pleasant surprise to say the least! Not only that its an unusual thing to see approaching, but its a very fine carriage too.
Your title is so suited, this could be a scene from any point in history. And it looks to me like a scene that you could change the mood of so well too, while in color its a wonderful scene with the fine carriage and very appealing light, I think in black and white, this would take on a much more ominous and perhaps spooky element. Really nicely done.
All the best

love this! Timed to perfection and executed in your own inimitable and accomplished style. The light is amazing and the clarity just immaculate. It is an original take on Malta and I must say a super fine image. Impressive work!

You have a great image to work with, such an old alley to wander around this pretty little space dark enough to be moody, but light enough to see lots of detail in the stone but the horse carriage is interestingly vital enough to hold the viewers attention. Such a charming little sight, It's nicely composed taken from a lower angle using the strong diagonals to converge naturally to a vanishing point taking us to journey back in time. Loads of fine details, the wonderful subtle colour, tones, shadows and textures displaying the local essence of what is typically Maltese. This is a well performed shot very nicely put together, Congrats.

Ciao e buona giornata

That pretty street has captured in this photo, and that much time with the coach, which occupies most of the narrow street, these magnificent buildings lining both sides of the street, very good management of the shadows and lights.
Very good image quality, sharpness is also great.
Enjoy a happy day.

Krzysztof Witaj very good view of this interesting and beautiful scene of daily life in the exciting streets of the medina of Malta, very well captured in this excellent and beautiful photography. An interesting image, with good sharpness, depth, light and color. Excellent and beautiful work well done, congratulations my friend. Thanks for sharing this interesting work.
Good afternoon and happy weekend.
Warm greetings from southern Spain.

I would go for the one in the workshop. The ideal picture would be when the horse and the carriage are situated in the full sunlight of the side street on the right. But I admit that this is nitpicking. I've also visited Mdina and took similar pictures but none of them is as good as this one!
In that narrow street you also have to be careful that the horse cart doesn't drive over you :)
Mdina is very small but so beautiful and it has several picturesque streets and corners. A place where time stood still. Regrettable but when I was there, there were a lot of tourists. Of course, I was one of them ...
Best regards, Paul

hmmm....I share your pain my friend, I often don't know exactly which photo to post sometimes, it drives me crazy.
Although both photos are very good, they are different. This one has much better lighting, but the WS photo has a closer subject...hmmmm
Too bad we couldn't post 2 photos eh! haha
you're so right about the scene itself, I bet you weren't expecting to see this as you were walking by.
excellent scene to post for sure.
jcpix (6654) 2013-10-17 19:33
The narrow perspective caught my eye right away when I saw this in the smaller, gallery size...what a great "pull" down the street this composition has created.
Now, did you see this coming from a distance and wait for just the right moment, or was it caught in a spontaneous hurry? Only curious, because no matter the circumstance, you couldn't have timed it any better! :) Both images have their own merits for impact, you certainly can't go wrong with either one. And how in the world did you keep that band of sunlight from blowing out that section of the street, and still maintain all of the detail in the shaded areas? Most impressive my friend, a true compliment to your abilities!
You're right, this carries an enormous sentiment of going back in time...I can virtually here the "click-clack" of the heels and rolling of the wheels. Excellent work, another great image from Malta! Enjoy the day ahead. Take it easy.
My best wishes,

I love this kind of narrow lane.Great sight and colors.A great use of colors and light. The deep depth of field is perfect.TFS.

Hello Krzysztof - Your shots are so similar and yet so different and I think both of them are very good. The WS has more immediacy and I can relate more to what is happening with the carriage which becomes the main point of interest. The shot you chose to post is more about the location I think. In any event both are executed in your own careful way. Excellent light management in a tricky scene contrast-wise, you have managed to keep hold of some detail in the very bright areas of the shot. A fabulous duo and as you say timeless! Warm regards Rosemary

Good title )) You are right, it looks like a movie scene. Excellent vertical format, marvelous color combination of the blue sky and these old sandy walls. TFS!

vladic (4279) 2013-10-18 10:14
Piękne przeniesienie w „średniowieczny wymiar Europy” jakże odmiennej od konwencjonalnych doświadczeń.
Wąska uliczka ograniczona ścianami szlachetnych renesansowych kamienic po prostu zachwyca. Gratuluję perfekcyjnego opanowania światła – wyjątkowo trudnego w tych okolicznościach.
mjw364 (6142) 2013-10-19 1:12
Nice POV - good use of light and the horse and carriage creates the focal point of interest. Standing where you are I would be worried that the horse would crush me as it passes by!
Well composed. I prefer this one to the WS but I wonder if you had your camera on continuous if you could have captured the horse just as it emerges into the light that cuts across the alley way? Just a thought.
bayno (18338) 2013-10-19 5:15
a narrow alley that he almost forced into a vertical framing, excellent light management, the handwriting of the pavement, detail and depth, it seems to go back in time...have a good WE...

Ancient streets are so narrow or is this an alley? Nice capture of the horse carriage. Good lighting and nice details. Well done, tfs.

Excellent shot here.. I like the composition and long vertical framing.. Also excellent image quality and nice colors too.. very well done my friend.. and thanks for your informative notes too..
Good afternoon from Kolkata and wish you all the best..
ourania (18764) 2013-10-20 8:43
both pictures are great but I prefer this one because the perspectives look longer, the depth is greater, there's more dynamism and there's a sense of anticipation with the carriage placed at a critical spot, a second before it stepped into the light. You've used the vertical frame very effectively and took care as not to crop severely the impressive doorway on the left. There's fine clarity and a marvellous balance in the lighting and the colours. Even from this limited viiew we can see what a fascinating place this is. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Fotografia to moja pasja. Pominelam tyle cudownych zdjec Twoich i innych czlonkow TE.
Uliczka cudowna wraz z konikiem i karoca. Sliczna kompozycja ktora wprowadza w fantastyczny spokojny nastroj, ktory uwielbiam. Piekna kolorystyka. Swietnie zlapales, ten cien i swiatla ktore dzieli te kompozycja. Sliczna praca. Pozdrawiam, Barbara

The carriage passing thrugh the narrow alley takes us back to the old times. A good and timeless moment that you captured very well!
I like both either:)!

hello, another nice one from your archive. The alley is superb for photograph with a lot of textures and the effect of light and shadow. The horse driven cart is a bonus to it. Excellent depth and very good clarity. Superb shot. Tfs.
