Photographer's Note
When I visited Lake Ohrid it was a quiet place and the water was clear and clean. This was before tourism and development stressed the ecosystem of the lake.
The shot was taken in winter when the fog gave the place an endless aspect and I felt as if I was floating in the air, unhindered by gravity.
Scanned image from a B&W film.

Hello Klaudio,
I love this timeless thirty-seven year old gem! It has an etherial quality. This is the the town my father was born in exactly 100 years ago. A few years ago when I visited the town that his father was born in, Thessalonica, I wrote a tribute to both of them. In 1910 Ohrid and Thessalonica were both part of the Ottoman Empire. If you have some time to kill, peruse the story at Tribute to General Kemal Atalay. Ohrid, as "Ohri," appears near the end. Thank you for submitting this sensational photo.
Did you know that Lake Ohrid and the Black Sea became isolated from the Mediterranean about six million years ago, when the Straits of Gibraltar during the relentless drifting of the tectonic plates. Whereas Lake Ohrid and the Black Sea have substantial rivers pouring into them, the Mediterranean is hydrologically deficit. Then a million years later, Gibraltar opened up again filling the Mediterranean Basin. Ohrid remained isolated, so did the the Mediterranean, that is, until 7600 hundred years ago, when the Aegean, an arm of the Mediterranean broke though at the Bosporus. There is a simple account of the event, discovered by Ryan and Pittman in 1996, at the link Black Sea Flood.
Warm regards,
Bulent

Hello Klaudio. Landscape with fog. An interesting black and white photo with a lot of atmosphere. The decision for black and white like it very much. Worth seeing. Regards, Wolfgang.

Hi Klaudio,Good range of tones and detail in the foreground foliage ,the white out to the right of the photo helps emphasize the feeling of the fog,the snow capped mountains complete the scene. What a view the owners of the houses on the shore of the lake have. Thanks Tom.

Hi Klaudio
Thirty seven year old and still looks good, splendid archiving job really Klaudio, my appreciation. Gorgeous shot, the heavy fog is a real dream! so thick that the mountain looks like an island in the sky.
Interesting vegetation in the foreground with that partially hidden house on the slope. Excellent contrast
and clarity. An awesome nostalgic image and good additional infor from batalay. TFS

Hi Klaudio,
This is truly exquisite. The composition is so classy with the roofs showing just the right amount and the perfectly shaped mountain disappearing down the misty lake. Absolutely timeless.

Hi Claudio,
This is a beautiful and peaceful scene. It does seem as if the mountains were floating in the fog. Black and white is a good option - I am sure the landscape must be amazing in this part of the world.
best regards from Miami!

Hi Klaudio, I loved the old landscape. Beautiful misty atmosphere with very nice composition. It's very unfortunate for me that I couldn't visit Macedonia this summer though I had a chance to do it. I notice that your last upload is nearly one month ago, hope you don't give up, at the time I decide to make a new start..:)
Selamlar,

Hello Klaudio,
This is quite different from the Lake Ohrid I saw last year, when the tourist season was still in full bloom. I am sure it was a much more quiet place in 1973, and this foggy day in December really conveys an atmosphere of peace and stillness. The many shades of dark and grey have been well handled in the scanning process.
Kind regards,
Gert

Ciao Caro Klaudio, a timeless shot, but I read with sadness your Note how the area has now been "developed" so to speak for the tourists. I love the grain to the shot, which goes so well with the mist and choice of B&W. The mountains really do have the effect of floating in air. A very mystical and nostalgic photo. TFS it with us and I wish you a beautiful weekend, Lisa

Klaudio,
A beautiful photograph - coming up for 30 years old, so also an important historical document. To me, it is the top right corner, where the details all fade away in to nothingness that makes this such a great photograph. well done and thanks for sharing, Iain
