Photographer’s Note
Salonika`s Head ( Solunska Glava ) is a peak on mountain Jakupitsa in the center of Macedonia, the rock face is arround 700m high.
As the story goes - Name of this mountain and the peak was (eng)WET or (maced)MOKRA. Then in the First World War, soldiers were settled arround the peak. Tesaloniki/Salonika/Solun front was very important, so the soldiers were allways on look out. One night a Captain said that those lights that can be seen from the peak are the lights of Salonika. So the peak got the name Salonika`s Head.
In reality, you cant see the town of Salonika, the air distance is about 180km and plus there are lot`s of mountains of 2000m hight in between.

Hello Martin,
Interesting notes to accompany your photograph! I like the composition. I n fact, the layers of colour lead the eye ever higher to the top of the mountain where it makes a stark contrast with the sky. Well done!
kind regards,
Bev :-)
