Photographer’s Note

A lady selling toys at the Bit Pazar market in Skopje, capital of Macedonia. This market is on the outskirts of the Carsija district dating back to Ottoman times. I got the impression that most shopkeepers and customers were of Albanian or Turkish origin.

indeed, a most picturesque "daily life" capture :)) Even the clothes which this lady is wearing match the colours of the goods which she is selling :) She is almost "lost" among the colourful things around her!
In my opinion, the photo was taken from an excellent point of view!
And in so many ways this scene reminds me of those which I can see in Moscow in different markets...

Quite unusual to see a person with red trousers here on TE! But I have to admit that there are more colours here in your picture than in mine, all the articles for sale here provide definitely more colours than maybe necessary. But this lady seems to be quite content with her goods!

Indeed a colourful lady - almost every colour imaginable seems to included in this photo - and the stall keeper seems to be sleeping through it all - at least you wouldn't have to be concerned about offending her by taking her photo. Good pov and certainly detailed. Tfs, Marlene

Hi, Gert -

It's crowded but well organized, and the objects act as a colorful frame for the image. It reminds me very much of similar stalls in many parts of the world - people will sell whatever they can to make a living.

I'm not sure, but I think her flesh tones are a little off. Or maybe that's her blushing from being caught with those trousers and socks!

Hi Gert, When I see the name of Skopje, I think at once about a disastrous earthquake that hit the town many years ago. Nice scene from the market. probably most of the items are made in China. lady itself is colourful, bur her stand, wow!
