Macarios the Icon-painter Zrze – Prilep.134 x 93.5 cm.

From the church of the Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration, Zrze - Prilep.

Iconography: The Mother of God Pelagonitisa is shown in half-length. In her arms she is carrying the infant Christ. His back is towards the spectator. The loving pose is emphasized by Christ’s face touching the lips of the Mother of God.
The appellation “Pelagonitisa" is undoubtedly connected with the region of the Pelagonian Plain, at one end of which the Monastery of the Holy Transfiguration is located. The Mother of God is dressed in dark red maphorion bordered with gold. The infant Christ is dressed in white decorated discreetly painted flowers of blue and vermilion. He has a blue belt hatched with gold round his waist. However, special life is given to the scene by the orange cloak, which wraps the right leg of Christ and is thrown over the left arm of the Mother of God.
The background is gold. The inscription is written in vermilion.

This is one of the most valuable icons in Macedonian heritage.

Hi Igor
I like the fine browish setting, the lamp in the foreground and the good motive on the painting. Adding some more light in the lower part or cropped some of it had also worked I think.

Very spherical picture. Good info too.
Did you try a little longer shutter-time? I can imaging that the light becomes too fierce, but I like to see a little bit more of the icon.

Svetloto od kandiloto prekrasno
ja osvetluva nashata najubava ikona
od Presveta Bogorodica.
Ova svetlo e samo za molitva
so navednata glava.

Bogorodica Pelagonitisa e moeto vtoro omileno umetnicko delo, vednas zad portretot na Sv. Kliment vo Bogorodica Perivleptos vo Ohrid. Steta sto originalot e vo galerijata vo Skopje a kopijata vo Zrze mesto da bide obratno.
