Photographer’s Note

Oil refinery situated between Skopje and Kumanovo, main source for pollution for the local people. Since 1999 or 2000 this refinery was bought by Hellenic Petroleum and is not respecting any law about pollution of the environment and what is more sadly is that our Government is not doing anything to prevent the local people and environment from the pollution. First they were refusing to buy filters and now they bought them, but they don't want to put them. Agrrrrhhhhh...

This is a great picture! We have a steel mill here in Illinois and if one is caught taking pictures at night, when they are letting off the most crap!, a security guard will ask you to leave. Anyway, I really like how the photo extends upward to show the cloud of polution. Great shot!
