Photographer’s Note

"Gëlle Fra", Place de la Constitution, Luxembourg.

A picture from last nights footoshooting of our small little photo-club. I already posted a picture of this place some time ago. Hope like this one too and have a look at the WS, where I posted another detail shot.

The Gëlle Fra (Golden Lady) is part of the "Monument du Souvenir" (Rememberance Memorial) on Constitution Square. It was set up in 1923 to commemorate the Luxembourgers who perished in the First World War. The memorial represents a gold-plated female figure on a stone obelisk. On 20th October 1940 the Nazis pulled the monument down and it was believed to have been melted, until it was rediscovered in 1984. After an extensive restoration, the memorial was given back its original appearance. Today it symbolizes freedom and resistance.
