The "L" Pixel Photo

Photographer’s Note

Lëtzebuerg / Luxembourg is not a big country on the world map and probably not much bigger than a pixel on a TE personal map, hence the title.

This photo marks its addition to my TE map, and given the weather that can be enjoyed on it, you understand I won't upload more photos from there for the time being.... I just wanted to paint this pixel yellow in the heart of the old EU.

You see here the imposing Vianden castle situated in the north of the country. It looks fairly medieval in style, since most buildings where completed in stages between the XI th and the XIV th centuries, but first traces of its construction go back to the V th century.

We quickly crossed this area on our way from Trier (where we had met Didier) to Jalhay, unfortunately it was raining quite a lot so photos of this part of the trip are rare and show dull skies to foo away any Quebecois cousin... Despite these conditions and under the experienced leadership of Bibi we managed to climb the highest peak of the country, a memorable event in an alpinist's life ;-)

aaah, le chateau de Vianden, un bon souvenir, c'est pas mal comme cadrage, sans toutes les voitures et habitations.
je crois que tu as quelques workshops, enfin, ce qui me reste du meeting ;o)

A castle upon a hill has always a certain impact on me, and when you on that add a dramatic sky your home. and all of the Grimm brothers, HC anderssen is passing like a trailer in my head.

Plutôt réfléchi comme titre; la pertinence dans le détail!

Mais dis-moi Jean-Yves, est-ce qu’il y aurait plus de choses à voir au Luxembourg, n’eut-été de ce temps maussade? En d’autres mots, l’intérêt de ce territoire est-il proportionnel aux nombres de nuages qui le surplombent?

Je comprends ta volonté d’étendre la couche de moutarde qui couvre ta carte géographique, mais il n’est pas mal ce château! Même par temps couvert, on peut en apprécier le point de vue et la composition.

La photo de votre ascension est bien sympathique, avec la toujours souriante Bibi, surtout lorsqu’elle grimpe quelque part... Çà aurait été bien de voir également votre camp de base et vos bouteilles d’oxygène...

When the time is limited, there isn't always luck with the weather. Well framed shot on flat light.
I hope I'll have a better luck with my "L" pixel of Liechtenstein.

Un bien joli chateau et une vue en contre plongée qui le met bien en évidence dans son écrin de verdure.
Joli ciel et une lumière agréable.
J'ai épuisé mon quota de WS pour ajd mais je t'en réserve un ou deux :-)

je vois que le Luxembourg n'offre pas non plus les lumières de Mada ! Malgré la faiblesse de la lumière on distingue assez bien le château. Cependant c'est loin d'être ta meilleure photo. Congratulations pour l'ascension vertigineuse. On voit bien que Bibi tiens la forme !

Belle composition avec ce château dominant la verte forêt, le gris du ciel s'accorde au vert des arbres ... on pourrait presque croire à une de tes photos de Dordogne !

A great note and a great story jean Ives. What a super location! and just right for a powerful composition. The strong upturned V , (masculine, if you believe the symbolism) and placed nicely to the left of center. Actually, this fearsome castle needs an angry, moody sky, so maybe you were lucky that the weather was not so good. regards kevin

Un chateau qui en impose par sa masse et sa situation ! L'image est un peu sombre mais tu es excusé car le temps ne semblait pas à la fête ! Tu ajoutes donc un pays à ta map déjà bien fournie ! Félicitations !

Great castle, which appears almost as a fairy tale. The lighting was not the greatest, but I like the way the off centre composition builds from right to left and shows this so well. Well done!

I thought you bought a second L lens ;-)
Light is a bit flat and dull here, the picture hardly comes to live in this grey weather. Your pov and the castle a bit to the left is well choosen, nothing to pick on that...

L'ensemble est un peu sombre, mais je pense que cela reflète bien la luminosité de ce moment là. Je vois que la grue a disparue comme par magie et ton cadrage donne l'impression que le château surgit de la forêt qui enveloppe la colline. Le titre est bien trouvé et n'est pas sans rappeler le titre d'une série américaine... mais ça n'a aucun rapport.

Like me,you will not find the L pixel on your intro map.
Bad weather,but a sharp image ,taken from a nice POV.
I´ve been there twice last week ,under nearly the same weatherconditions.
My ws shows the castle from another POV some days earlier(monday,4.6.07)
When you visit this area again you should visit this very interestingexhibition in Clervaux.

Hello PIxou,
Vianden et Monschau ont quelques particularités en commun, j'ai visité ces deux villes et je suis content chaque fois que je revois une photo qui y a été prise.
Pas les meilleures conditions de lumières, mais une photo qui rend bien justement, l'ambiance de ces jours sans.

un nid d'aigle qui me fait penser a un film célébre, le ciel orageux n'aide pas la photo mais donne une ambiance de chateau avec des fantomes, tu en as vu......

Ta carte du monde va bientôt être entièrement orange..et c'est vrai que ce petit point te manquait. Bon, la lumière n'était pas terrible mais l'endroit est beau.

Bonjour, Jean-Yves. Ta vue en contre-plongée donne toute son importance au château qui surplombe la scène. Il est bien placé dans la composition et bien mis en valeur par le vert de la forêt qu'il domine et le ciel gris sur lequel il se détache. Il y a aussi une jolie diagonale qui part du château et descend toute en verdure vers le coin droit de l'image.

Bien cadré cebeau chateau perché sur son rocher. Le titre et très bien trouvé! Et dire que je vis sur ce pixel :~). Le ciel est sombre, c'est vrai, mais on apeçoit quand même très bien la forteresse.
