Here we are under the arch of the Vauban tower in Pfaffenthal looking to the nearby church.

Very interesting this guy Vauban as I have seen his buildings and fortifications all over the South of France and now also in Luxembourg. He must have been close to hyperactive with all his construction work going on all over France and neighbooring countries.

some more of this guy:
Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban
(born May 15, 1633, Saint-Léger-de-Foucherest, France — died March 30, 1707, Paris) French military engineer. After fighting with the forces of the Condé family (1651 – 53), he switched to the royalist side and joined the newly formed engineer corps, becoming engineer in chief at the siege of Gravelines (1658). He designed fortifications for numerous French towns and outposts and devised tactics that led to many successes in the French wars of Louis XIV's reign; his innovations revolutionized the art of siege tactics and defensive fortification. He also introduced the tactic of ricochet gunfire and invented the socket bayonet. His treatises on fortification and siege-craft were studied for more than 100 years. He was made a marshal of France in 1703.

Even more of Vauban:
...Over the next few years Vauban supervised sieges of key locales, such as the 1684 siege of Luxembourg, for which he invented the cavalier, a tower that allowed French troops to look down and fire upon the besieged town. In 1687 he constructed the fortification at Landau in Bavaria, a structure so masterful in planning that military historians cite it as the apex of Vauban's career. In the War of the Grand Alliance, in which Louis XIV's France battled a trio of formidable powers-the Holy Roman Empire, the Netherlands, and England-Vauban served as a lieutenant general and took the vital town of Phillippsburg on the Rhine. That battle was also notable for Vauban's introduction of ricochet gunfire, in which he ordered cannons to be fired with less gunpowder so they did not immediately sink into the ground but instead hit a number of targets.

Hi Jack.

Nice "frame". Again, a nice example of the HDR method.

Well done!

Rgs, Oscar

Best regards
Denise

Hei HDR Terror ;-)
more than the HDR that often yellos things a bit too much to my taste I prefer to concentrate here on the good framing using the arch, nice and effective.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Hello Jack

Wonderful use of the semi circular arch to frame the attractive bg church. Good colour & texture in the stonework, with a nice warm vs cold color opposition. Tfs!

Hello Jack,
Great capture. Specially the arches in the foreground and that beautiful late afternoon (or may be early morning) light makes this picture a real maesterpiece.
By the way, I have looked at your "oldie". Great ! I have the same problem with my color "oldies" but as they do have nowadays archive value, I have a special love affair with all of them.

Hello Jack,

Exquisite composition, superb colors and sharpness. I like very much the way you've framed the church and the winding roadway witht he arch. Finally, the note is first classe, informative and engaging.

Warm regards,

Bulent

Good result with the HDR on this one, Jack, retaining impressive textural detail on the foreground gate and delivering a balanced exposure on the colorful village details in the background. Very nice take, almost has a kind of painterly feel to it.

Hi Jack

I like how you used this arch to frame the fine landscape at the back. Wonderful colors and lighting. A very nice shot.

Hi, Jack. A remarkably well exposed picture with very good light in all the parts of the image. Very good use of the arch to frame the whle scene.

Hello jack,
A very nice picture and I guess the result of an HDR processing. Colours are really gorgeous, and your framing is good. I like the yellow stones from gate and wall on left.
Best regards
JMarc

I like the framing of the church through bhe bridge. Such a bright cheerful image. Colors are great and clear

Nice and original point of view Jack, the contrast and sharpnening are excellent. Considering the probably dark place, the light is excellent through the small buildings, well done !

Hi Jack,
Great composition.
Very good colors and details.
Perfect quality and sharpness.
I like it. Regards. Uğur

Hello , Jack .
Great photo of the church seen through this special frame .
Besides the harmonious colours and depth which lets us catch a glimpse of a castle ( ? ) in the far background ,I like the frame in particular with its rugged structure of the arch and the stone wall . Great lighting too !
Greetings
Dorte.
