Photographer’s Note
As a photo this isn't much, I know. But it is so much Trekearth to me that I had to post it.
Every year in March I spent many weekend hours outside hoping for this sight. And generally I am rewarded. What you notice first is the sound of the birds crying as they fly, and this gives you time to look up towards the south and spot the wild geese, that to me are the sign that spring is on its way. When the wild geese head north, it is because they know that winter has lost its grip on Northern Scandinavia, which is their destination. And the V they form is a victory sign to me that life is returning to the frozen earth.
The backside of the medal is of course that they fly south on exactly the same route - which is over my head - forming exaxtly the same V, every years in September/October. The sign of winter.
This is my first posting with my new mini-camera that I still have to get used to. But it is good with a mini-camera that you can take anywhere. NeatImage to control all that blue sky of course.

I tried to take a picture like this in November, but when I got the camera settings right the geese where out of sight, and I saw at least five V's like this. That's when I decided to get a telephoto-lense.
It's a pity that the branches are in the way, but at the same time they frame the photo in a nice way, and add to the feel of winter. I would maybe like to see a little tighter cropping here.

Very nice picture that will mak me look in the sky in the next days... Composition with the branches on the left is good too. Nice picture!

I'd agree with you, Per, that this shot is very TE. Great capture of the "victory v", as you called it in your note. Simplicity rules here in terms of composition and color range, but I really like it - it enhances the moment without any distracting element in your frame. This is a very comforting sight for me after the slippery snowy chaos on the way to the office this morning ;-)
Congrats on the new mini camera; I'll be following your postings as I might also be inclined to find a small one that I can take wherever I go.

Dear Per, thanks for sharing your picture and your thoughts here. Just this week I had the same experience only I was driving in my car and seeing the V accidentally. That was a moment where my inner self held still and pondered how much I am waiting for better weather and all the joy that spring is bringing. Yours, Jan

Nice image Per - simple and one of natures wonders - The V-formation a matter of saving energy and the leader keep getting replaced.
May be I will post the "next" picture in this series - a Danish field with geese feeding on crops - There’s actually scarecrows in their favourite fields.
