Photographer’s Note

Yesterday I posted the new landmark of Hesperange - a motorway bridge. This is the original landmark. This ruin stands on a cliff exactly where the rugged landscape of the Ardennes ends, and the flat landscape of the plains of Lorraine begins. When you approach Luxembourg from the south, you see this from a considerable distance. And the idea in the Middle Ages was that this was an outlook post for the real fortress of Luxembourg, a few miles further inland. From here they could light a fire and warn the main fortress of an approaching enemy. This castle was built around 1200 and partially destroyed around 1500, so it has been a ruin for some time already.

Resized, clarified and sharpened.
