I was in Lithuania in 1995, five years after the independence from the Soviet Union. I found some things that were still heritage from the Soviet times, as well as newer trends (for example the clothes of the older and newer generations).
I found public telephone boxes, that operated with modern phone cards, but I found also these Taksofonas. If I recall what they said me, the taksofonas were old Soviet phones that operated with Soviet ruble coins (or the smaller kopeks). After independence, the new Lithuanian authorities didn't bother to alter these phones to use the new currency (the litas). So, in Vilnius they left the taksofonas operating only in free calls within the city limits. If I mistake something in this story, please correct me.
I guess this shot was somewhere beside Gedimino prospektas, between Katedros aikštė and Lukiškės aikštė. Maybe the taksofonas booths are no longer there.

Eu estive na Lituânia em 1995, cinco anos após a separação e independência da União Soviética. Encontrei algumas coisas que ainda eram herança da era soviética, bem como tendências mais recentes (por exemplo, as roupas das gerações mais velhas e mais novas).
Encontrei cabines telefónicas públicas que funcionavam com cartões telefónicos moderno, mas encontrei também estes Taksofonas. Se bem lembro o que eles me disseram, os velhos taksofonas soviéticos funcionavam com moedas de rublos ou kopeks soviéticos. Após a independência, as novas autoridades lituanas não se incomodaram a alterar esses telefones para utilização da nova moeda (o litas). Assim, em Vilnius, eles deixaram o taksofonas operando apenas em chamadas gratuitas dentro dos limites da cidade. Se me falha alguma coisa nesta história, corrijam-me.
Creio que isto foi fotografado algures ao lado da Gedimino prospektas, entre Katedros aikštė e Lukiškės aikštė. Talvez as cabines de taksofonas já lá não estejam.
