Sailing West
 |
|
| [Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
As you can see on this one, the second day at sea was much better than the first one. Good wind thus full sails: here, a jib and a stay sail, plus the starboard bottom corner of the foresail (the one on the right).
We are sailing west (more precisely, west - south west) to cross the Baltic, which explains the title.
But another one which could have been also relevant could have been "Slipery deck": as you can see here, the deck of Sorlandet at that time was varnished pine, not teck. It make a nice shining surface, but also a slipery one when it is wet. Which explains why once during a manoeuve, I slid over it and finish sitting on the deck at the railing, the legs hanging outside the ship and clenching a pole with both hands...
PS Elements 5.0
Fictitious location again, we are just somewhere in the Baltic. |

Bonjour Emmanuel,
amicalement

Hi Emmanuel,
I understand the circumstances were not the best for photos with such a slippery deck. But it's a great photo with a sunlight that enhances. Great inclusion of the sails in the upper half of the photo, cleverly done. Thanks for sharing!
Regards,
Lars
Hello Emmanuel,
I have a little vertigo right now (I get this occasionally) so your photo makes me glad that I am not on the open sea right now. The tilting of the ship creates a sense of drama, and the rope starting from the lower left portion of your frame, going through the guide and coming out and upward again leads the viewer right into the photograph and creates a wonderful compositional triangle. This is really good work especially considering the circumstances. Well done!

Bonjour Emmanuel
The tilt of the picture signifies that perhaps the ship was riding a wave & reading you note about the slippery floor, the feeling creeps onto the viewer. The light is excellent here as it shines through the billowing sails. Not one of your best, but a good one nonetheless
Best Regards
