Photographer’s Note

Talsi - "Pearl of Kurzeme"- the town of nine hills, is perched above two lakes. Talsi has 12 000 inhabitants. Its history is hidden in its calm cobbled streets, in its old wooden houses with red tiling, in its well – preserved parks, cherry and apple-tree gardens of long standing. In all seasons Talsi can be compared with a proud lady of Kurzeme – it is mysterious, reserved, diligent and variable. The hilly relief of the town has influenced the spreading of building in a peculiar way – the town resembles puff pastry – where the roof of one building ends, there the basement of other one begins, and local staircases are the shortest route at Talsi. The ancient castle mould of Cours is the heart of Talsi, and standing on its top, the whole town panorama is seen. Talsi is the perfect destination for travelers, who can estimate both the calmness of workday rhythm of a rural town and the aura of culture and pastime on weekends. Talsi is a town where the traveler can sense the reciprocal harmony of history, nature and town.

Ivana - the critique from the photo that I guess you just posted & deleted (I was writing it while it was being deleted):

Great composition Elaine. Love your positioning of the sign in the foreground. Nice color also - the sky looks good and the bottom two thirds of the photo looks good with the river being almost the same shade of green as the surrounding grass. Nice framing also. A really good looking photo.

Nice POV, composition and color. The lilly pads in the foreground are a nice addition from your last upload and add a nice contrasting shade of green in the water. The bright houses in the background and the little strip of blue sky look great too. Nice work. Good framing and note to compliment the photo also.

I agree with all compliments from recent comments regarding composition, colors and overall quality of this fine photo.
But IMHO there is one small thing that is little annoying to me and I think that you should clone that out. That is those small part of red church tower visible in upper left corner. Of course thats only my opinion but my eyes always go to this part of your photo instead of following line of houses.

Hi Ivana,

I'm going through your recent shots in your gallery and I see there are still quite some countries to explore! I have never been to Latvia, Lituana or Poland. Must be interesting to go there!
My father went to Poland for his work a long time ago. It must have been the early 90's and not the best time for Poland economically. I think it was that time that they started with their big economic plans to stabilize the currency etc, which in the short run is always quite painful. He came back with his lease car and everything that looked nice on that car was stolen hahaha. The strips on the side, the grill, the plates on the wheels, everything. It looked very funny, but the lease company could not really laugh about it :-).

I have by the way been to Tsjechia (think I'm not writing it right). To the Ertzgeberge. A little kloster that needed renovating somewhere, some voluntary program during the summer.
Going back to your picture, I really like the leafs in the water. It really breaks up thew picture a bit. Nice colour, good sharpness. Well done!

That's a very beautiful photograph!
The vertical format was the best choice to compose it, with all the elements placed perfectly in the image, from the floating leaves in the very foreground to the beuatiful sky on top! Colors are natural and fantastic! Luminosity is superb! Sharpness is outstanding! I just loved it!
