Photographer’s Note
This is a view of Riga, the Latvian capital, taken from one of the cathedral towers in the old town, in the foreground you can see the old town rooves, then the freedom avenue with the freedom obelisk bearing the incriptions "Tevzemei un Brivibai" (To the Freedom and the Homeland) that played a significant role as a gathering point during the short struggle for independance in 1991.
The uggly rising structure behind it is the hotel Latvija, the representation of the tourist accomodation dream as seen by the soviet authorities, similar "hotels" can be seen in a number of ex-soviet cities. This view is a bit old, hopefully Riga now has hotels more appropriate to its standard !

Salut Jean-Yves,

Hi Jean Yves,
The scanning have a little grain to the sky, but I like very much your panorama view, perhaps it horizon is not horizontal a few slope down to the leftside, the colours are very attractive.
Best regards,
John.

Hello Jean-Yves,

Hey Jean-Yves. Nice shot of a beautiful place. But I messed around with the shot and it might be beneficial to run an Auto Color in Photoshop. I know scanning isn't easy and you did a good job. I'm going to feel some of your pain when I post my first scan in the next week. Nicely done Jean-Yves.

Bonjour, Jean Yves. This is a pleasing, first class composition giving a grand view of the city. The greenery nicely separates pockets of urban areas in the scene and it all flows together with great depiction of architecture, rendered with clarity and detail. A superb shot.

Hello PT - I like the presence of all of the basic elements one expects from an ex-soviet city: beautiful but neglected old buildings, a golden domed church, a concrete high rise monster, and tall smokestacks. I visited Riga last October and can tell you this view is hitoric now, the Latvija has been renovated with a 21st century glass façade (I did not stay there, too $$$), and the old town is as well kept as any in western europe.
