I posted this photo mainly because of the title :). As I said earlier, black cat is a favourite in Riga. We can see him on the roof on the Cat House - but there is someone there too.
The Cat House (Latvian: Kaķu nams) is a building situated at 10 Meistaru iela in the old town of Riga, the capital of Latvia. It was built in 1909 according to the blueprint of architect Friedrich Scheffel. The building is styled as medieval architecture with some elements of Art Nouveau. It is known for the two cat sculptures with arched backs and raised tails on its roof. It is said that the owner of the house wanted the cats to be placed with their tails turned towards the house of the Great Guild, which is nearby, as he held a grudge against its members. It was later ordered that cats should be turned to face the guildhouse.
The legend known by most Rigans, which is also told to tourists, comes in at least two versions. One version of the legend has it, that the wealthy tradesman who commissioned the building was refused membership in the Riga Tradesman Guild, mostly just called the Great Guild. The central element of both versions is the anecdote, that seeking retribution, the tradesman had two copper statues of angry-looking cats with arched backs and raised tails placed on the turret rooftops with their tails turned towards the house of the Great Guild, situated across the street.
The other and perhaps older version of the cat legend has it, that the wealthy tradesman placed the two statues of angry-looking cats on the building turret rooftops with their tails towards the Riga Town Hall, following a dispute with the Riga City Council, after which he urged the erection of the building.

The building makes a very nice profile against the beautifully blue sky. The cat is really outstanding. A very beautiful and amusing detail. I also like the nice contrasts of ochra and blue.

Bonsoir, chère Malgo,
Voilà une sculpture peu commune dans la décoration ornementale des toits à poivrière !
Très bonne idée et très bonne présentation.
Note édifiante bien rédigée.

Lol at the title. What a precarious spot for a cat to be perched. lucky its only a statue. Good sharpness and nice warm cold color contrasts between the yellow and blue with a nice upward pov. Excellent sharpness and shadow detail. Tfs!

Une note intéressante pour expliquer la raison de cette statue de chat si haut perché.

I like these colours here, a very attractive combination of beige and blue. A nice observation here to spot not only the cat, but also the man standing here. The picture is well cropped and very well composed.

You posted the photo mainly for the title, and I chose it for the same reason. It's actually a simple composition with very good exposure and sharpness. The note is immediately engaging, complementing the photograph.
Warmest regards, dear Malgo,

Sliczna fasada "Kociego Domu" i bardzo dobry tytul-parafraza. :)
Ciesze sie, ze zamiescilac to zdjecie, bo ja nigdy nie mialam szczescia do pogody w Rydze - zawsze deszcz i szare chmury.
