Photographer’s Note
Sietiniezis is one of the most beautiful cliffs in Latvia. It is located in the heart of Gauja National Park (GNP) on the right bank of Gauja river on section between towns Valmiera and Cesis.
This cliff has got mutiple forms of suffosion - caves, pillars, alcoves, ravine, there has been an arch and there is forming a new one. Excellent sight from the top of this cliff to the valley of Gauja river.
Cliff has got two parts. The northern part is located close along Gauja River. This part has got yellowish sandstone cliff up to 6 m high. It's fragment You can see on photo.
Southern part is located some distance away from Gauja river. This cliff is up to 15 m high, nearly white sandstone. Gauja National Park has created wonderful pathway here.
There are two ways how to get to Sietiniezis: go by road or boating by river. If You wish "to touch" the cliff, it is better to go by road A3 Ragana-Valmiera and turn east to country-road where the respective GNP tourist sign will be seen (I think it should coincide with road to Vaidava) and follow these signs.
