Photographer’s Note
Paradise
We come toStalgene a couple of times a year. I like it because it's one of the only places where you can see the horizon all around you. Friends of us are slowly renovating it, and much of their daily routine is spend on what you need to do when you live on the land. This shed is used for storing wood, because their house is heated by wood, and not by gas or oil.
I used B&W because the scene is so calm and it helps to show the age of the place. It also corresponds more with my feeling at the time, relaxed.
Photoshop Elements 2.0;
I simply used the option 'publish for Web', no cropping, darkening, sharpening, just resizing to 700 pix width. The original was already B&W, and with the Canon I usually underexpose a pull point, to bring out the contrast.

Hello David. I like this simple rustic scene - the tools, the barrow, the open door, the fire laid, and the timber work on the shed. The shot has a nice lighting and I'm glad you didn't increase the contrast too much. Great choice of b/w. The stark presence of the simple building on the flat landscape is very effective. Well done.
Regards,
Andrew

Belle photo d'expression simple . le message passe bien. Lieu calme . le noir te blanc s'applique bien pour ce style d'image .. Bravo.. Réal.

Hello David,
Simple, but intense. And this applies as well to the landscape as to your photo. They convey a feeling of vastness and of serenity. Nothing impressive, but that's not necesary to obtain a good picture. Your choice for a B&W picture is an appropriate one, as well as slight underexposure in order to increase contrast (I often do the same).
TFS & kind regards,
Erik

Hi Davids.
The three main things I like in your picture are the following:
1/ The extreme simplicity of the composition.
2/ The perfect (at least for my limited knowledge) balance between the main elements.
3/ The B&W treatment that makes the textures one of the main actors of the scene.
The combination of these aspects is really successful!
Thanks for sharing.
PS: it was really nice to discover your gallery.
