You might know that in 18th century Latvia was part of Russian Empire. This palace was built by a favorite of Russian czar Anna - duke of Kurland (Kurzeme) in 1736 - 1768 - but it was never completed. Style - barocco and rococo, also classicism.
Since 1972 the huge palace is under restoration. It is located some 80 km from Riga and most time of the year there are no tourists. Very impressive to walk alone for hours there.

Oh Gatis, how wonderful to have a place like this to yourself! This is a very imposing structure. I am surprised that it is in such good shape and I'm assuming that is due to the continued restoration efforts. I like the perspective you have here and am also curious to see what the rest of the structure looks like.
Such a wonderful pointof view. I alos truly like the combination of colors. This palce feels peaceful and quiet. I like how the stairs are placed, and all those lines on the building. Great photograph and note too.
