Photographer’s Note

I am sorry for being so inactive lately, but between the baby and trying to figure out my new scanner, I am using up a lot of time.

This is a scanned slide from 30 years ago. They seem to come out SO much better than photos. Again, no idea what camera I was using even, maybe Olympus, maybe a Minolta. No EXIF data whatsoever. I haven't tried negatives yet, so - that is my next project. Hope you enjoy this.

In the top left corner of the original there was a dark, round shape in the corner that was part of the top of the boat. I debated leaving it in, but even I found it distracting. So I cloned it out. I think it looks much better without it. Just thought you should know.

A shot from a long time ago - I wonder how long you have had it on your mind? To take so long to gather your thoughts, it must be a precious scene to you, Shelly. And so that is the way it comes across...

Looking down the 'isle', so-to-speak... those must have been most romantic times on the waterways. Like footage playing in the background, with actors filmed in front of the screen. There is a lovely, old, 3D feeling here, and I like it so much. Please keep digging in to your old shots - they make this wonderful TE site timeless.

les couleurs sont bien restituées et font penser, comme cela a été dit, à une vieille carte postale qui a gardé tout le charme de cette ville unique au monde.

Hello Shelly,
Very good perspective on the channel with excellent light and colors. Stupendous picture to be scanned, only a suggestion, sometimes it is not enough to use the noise removal tool for the sky, I recommend a "blur softened" in which you can give you the strength you want.

it looks pretty fine for being a scan, good sharpness, contrast and -you are right- the colours of the slides are not yet matched. Lovely composition of Venice, quite enjoyable in spite of the thousands shot there. It deserved being posted.

Wonderful layering into thirds, with good colour, sharpness & reflections. There's a bit of blurring of the top left margin. The fg tourist at left, adds depth, & a welcome human element. Tfs!

Very good picture from the old scan. I know the problem well, as I also got a new scanner and then it was such a joy to see those old slides again. Beautiful view od the Canale Grande. Splendid colours.
