Taken just outside of Fiano Romano these used to be the hills where the Romans escaped the summer heat of the city. Now they are the hills where wealthy Romans buy Holiday Homes many (if not most) built without permission in anticipation of the eventual amnesty given by the government every 10 years or so.
This grove is surrounded on all sides by new buildings and the owner told me that he was shortly going to rip out the tree's and sell the land as 3 building plots.
It's very hammy showing the sun going down on the grove, but it is sort of symbolic and it looks OK.
Tech: shot in B&W mode with 2 stop soft grad + split red green filter and metered for the halo light and shadow. In PS I set the white and black points in curves and and depressed the mid point a touch (green filter had lightened the foreground too much), croped, sharpened and tidied up the bunnies in the sky.

Tres beau paysage en noir et blanc, félicitations.

B/W in a landscape can be so wonderful !
You're always the best in these shots, Richard. The light of the sun gives a great mood, it looks okay for me too !
Rip out the trees......this beautiful landscape ?

Richard, the b&w MASTER! Great to see italian landscapes shot that way... I love it.
Very well done!!!

Quel ciel, quelle lumière ! Magnifique composition.

Lovely contrasted elements. The light is so beautiful. The sharpeness is perfect in my opinion and the path on the left adds a lot of dynamism to the composition.

great B&W white scenery, dramatic composition

nice nice ncie

very dramatic sky! great contrasts, love it! the trees are so nice, a shame that they will be removed.

Richard you have such a cool style in all of your photographs their all very different with a bit the same... and all very beautiful... i like the composition very much... there is a dualty in this on as well rushing throught the trees or folowing the path....

Fantastic Shot Richard!

The levels got yet in your black and whites are superb! When I get a chance, I'm going to try your tech tips on some of my shots- see if I have any luck.

You've got a great angle on the tree line, and I like the fact that the first row is darker (emphasized).

Well done again Richard!

Nicely composition Richard! The black and white creates a special atmosphere. The clouds give me the impression that the time is passing through your picture.

very strong effect of representing nature in b&w. It reminds me of X-ray photography, making us see what is not to be seen in normal way.

What can i say well it gets better and better, probably the best set of photos on this site, they are credit to you Richard, very well done mate!

Consistently superb B&W landscapes you give us Richard

I like this part where the path on the left goes into black, with the extremely pale trees in the distance. The sky is beautiful, but the ground is what I like best here.

This is lovely Richard with finely rendered details and great tonal range, no doubt enhanced by excellent post processing. I especially appreciate the sky ranging from the brilliance of the sun behind trees and the clouds in the upper left quadrant with bright side toward the sun and shadow at the corner. My eyes are happy... ;-)

Beautiful sky - Nice effect to see a setting sun in black and white. I liekt he contrast here (the almost black olive trees) and the perspective of the trees and path marching off down the hillside. The wide angle was a fine choice.

Really excellent !... This landscape is magical with your eye, full of mystery, of emotions. Nothing else to say, this pic must be just admired...

wow!!!this is a great shot richard! this light comes out of the background gracefully and takes the viewer in another dimension;-) the wide angle is an absolute must in this shot!! i see you own the nikkor 12-24 f4...would you recommend it? any idea of the price tag?? having seen flydragon and your shots with wide angles, i am starting to think i should buy one too;-)) my banker is going to be delighted;-))

i really love that shot! congrats!

Hi,

Another classic. Your patience at locating that perfect monent to press the trigger in evidence here, resulting in a masterpiece in which the lighting, cloud formation and composition present yet another impressive result. A ray of light included for good measure too!

Well done,

Regards,

Vic, Singapore.

Really marvelous work. It may be 'hammy' (we say 'cheesy') if one knows the story, but even so, the falling light is very dramatic and lovely. The tones are so nice here. The trees seem to glow.

Very nice...rather moving. I really like the photo. Still could be sharper. You do such a great job balancing the image tones. Nice job.

The wide angle lens is an ideal to use in this kind of shot. Very nice scene with a great job on B&W tone. Great shot.

I love Italy Richard! And this is quit an amzing picture of it! Truly Amazing!! Take care! Ramon

beautiful scene with the beams of the sun coming out behind the trees. the contrasty b&w is really excellent!

A pro image.
I have no words to comment a masterpiece....
TFS Richard
