Photographer’s Note

Alghero between rain and hail showers. The city has a very Catalan feel in architecture, it was an abandoned ghost town that day when I passed through, because of the winter season the siesta time.

17mm. focal length.

I erased a construction crane above the white concrete building, and cloned a bit of vignetting from the bottom left and right corners.

Lee Systems 0.6 ND Grad filter used.

Tan,
Your composition is great using the shoreline to lead the eye into the shot. The lighting and colors are great with excellent sharpness and detail. The threatening sky creates a nice mood for the photo.

The dramatic lighting makes all the difference here. Of course your ability to capture it with a great wide-angle perspective is the key factor. Also your use if ND grads offers us a perfectly exposed image as well. I probably wouldn't have noticed the cloning in the corners if you hadn't mentioned it, but its good to be honest.

Just love the deep gray tones of the sky, the green-blue tones of the water, and the warmth of the buildings here. The POV and composition are excellent, but the colors and the play of light are what sets this shot apart. Thanks

Hi Tan,

A great manifestation of nature, an impressive contrast between sunlight and dark cloudy sky.

Good point of view, where ocean meet the shore.

Hi Tan,
Dramatic sky is at its best on wide angle. I like the foreground details of foaming water too. Round tower is a well placed detail next to the town.

Wide and dramatic as you like them to be but this time very close to the ground, did not find a hot air balloon to rent ? Exposure measured on the wave highlights is superb and the reds of Alghero areglowing under this dramatic light, I like it.

The siesta time, the great invention of the mediterranean way of life. I love the use of the wide lens here Tan, also the rainfall in the middle of the composition giving a springtime mood... Take care and keep traveling.

Great shot! I like the way the picture is divided between the three different sections - the sky, the sea and the town. Each is well defined and interesting by itself, but when you add them together then it is a very good photo. Nicely done!

Very good work, Tan! The lights on the foreground, showing the beach and that fort with nice colours is beautifuly enhanced by the nice dark sky. I love this kind of situation and you did a nice work capturing the moment.

This is great image with beautiful and drammatic sky. great detail on the wave with good control of the light and color with just enough saturation and contrast. Compostion is also very good and the the sharpness is just right on.

you just came once in Alghero and found such an intriguing atmospheric conditions, just lucky! I went there several times and never found a decent light: it's not fair! (:-
You are invalidating the rule that states that local people do better pictures of their own area...
