Arianescup 2006. The biggest amateur sailing regatta in Europe. Participants can be any employees who are working for a company working on the Ariane 5 launcher project.

In 2006 the regatta took place in the mediterenean and in the area of Formia in Italy.

The photo was shot during the second race of the first day. Wind coming from behind. This means that the sailships can show all their majesty, "the butterfly". Seeing all these sailing ships and the sunset behind was a really majestic view.

Unfortunately according to the rules if at sunset the first sailing boat has not crossed the finish line yet, the race is cancelled. In this case about 15 minutes were missing. So it was too late for glory...

Hi Thomas
Beautiful mood on this composition. The sails look great and the setting Sun with eyes and nose on the face :).
Regards

Hi Thomas, fascinating sunset composition with a lot of boats, splendid light and colors, very well done, ciao Silvio

Ciao Thomas,

thank you for posting this wonderful photo. It's a rare jewel.
I'm a sailing enthusiast and I don't find many pictures about sailing in TE. I'm thinking to create a theme about that (but not too soon) and surely I'd like to have this photo of yours included.
Bravo,
Donato

Hi Thomas,

very interesting sunset. I like the composition with the boats at full sail and the colours created at this particular time of the day. Sunsets have always been fascinating moments and every sunset photo I see is unique. I have never seen a sun with such a colour ... it almost seems unreal.

The photo's title, its composition and the note are in perfect relationship. Bravo!

Tfs,
Marius.
