Photographer’s Note

Piazza Grande, Arezzo, Toscana.

Although I prefer taking night shots, I decided to show this photo anyway. It was taken at 14:44', on the way to Florence. It is not the best time to take photos, because the tight at this time of day is usually to strong.

Arezzo is a historical town, that gave me the feeling I had travel back in time.

In my WS you can see the same shot in "sepia".

Arezzo is one of my favourite cites in Italy. It's good to see, that the main square is still in good condition. (I been there ten years ago.) You made a good composition, the details are fine both in light and shade, other values: natural colours and excellent sharpness. Precise job!

Hello Liliana.
This piazza reminds me a little of Siena, although a different shape. It's the slant of the tiles, I think. Apart from the rather pale sky, I like the lines of the buildings and the figures in the large space. It looks hot. I just looked at the WS; it is one way of dealing with a washed out sky but I think I prefer this version. I would say that in the bright light it is a good exposure.

Hi Lili,

I hope you liked this italian square, it's one of my favourites.
Nice image, I only think it's a little weak in exposure, as the church is a little dark and the people/building a little too overexposed.

I like your images taken of night, but I like the images of day too. This one very is successful. Perhaps that a small correction of slope and prospect was necessary. But it does not remove anything with the beauty, the interest and the quality of this image. Spend a good day.

so, you really CAN take photos at daylight, liliana! :-) this one turned out great, well composed with a nice pov.
the light was very harsh, but you managed that ok - for that i like the sepia-version even a little bit more.

Even with strong light but captured well with good exposure and focus!

Hi Lili,
Beautiful square. I've always liked old Italian architecture. Steeply sloped pavement adds interest here and makes lines look a bit twisted.
Midday light is rather harsh though.

Interesting architectural image. It's not easy to deal with all the lines and angles which get distorted both by perspective and the lens. Your task was made even more difficult as the ground also slopes. Maybe it just needs a little straightening so the central verticals are properly vertical. I think you managed the difficult exposure well.

Il n'est pas toujours facile de réaliser des photographies au bon moment. Malgré la lumière forte, le résultat est très bon et nous montre un bel exemple de l'architecture italienne. J'aime bien l'effet sépia qui donne à la composition un caractère "carte postale ancienne".

Woooooooowwwwww, the shapness and details, especially on the left side of the building is wonderful. The light is very bright but there is a special color to it. No part is overexposed, instead, it gives the photo a superb feel.

Beautiful architecture captured in your wonderful daily life shot, despite the hour that was taken it is a very good shot. Your POV is good plus sharpness and colors contrast. The presence of the people add a lot to your photo.

Hello Liliana,

I am very happy to see this wonderful shot of Arezzo. The piazza reminds me somewhat of the one in Sienna, but I have not seen it personally. On the road connecting Arezzo and Florence, I wonder if you came across the bridge used by Leonardo in the scene behind the Mona Lisa. In my Intro page, I wrote "I have always had an abiding passion for photography. In doing a GOOGLE search for Ponte Buriano, the bridge Leonardo da Vinci had used in the Portrait of Mona Lisa."
