Photographer's Note

This is a view of the ancient remains of Pompeii in Italy. This shot shows the outer walls and is softened, and to some extent hidden, by the the early spring vegetation. On the day that we were there, the weather was a mixture of sunny and cloudy spells. I managed to get this shot in a sunny moment!

We found Pompeii an amazing place to visit. It is very easy to access as it is only a few hundred metres from the railway station. If you go independently, as we did, it is possible to hire a guide when you get there. We found a guide who was incredibly knowledgeable and explained fetaures of the ruins that we would have had dificulty understanding had we just been reading a book! There is so much to see that I recommend at least a day. There are eating places outside the ruins if you don't have a packed lunch.
